  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A group of writers and artists published a letter in the Volkskrant newspaper condemning the idea as an assault on free speech and asking whether they would be hauled before an inquisition for poking fun at religion.

shouldn't they be more worried about getting two shots to the noggin by an Islamic extremist? speech ain't free kids, someone has to pay the piper.

I'm surprised that "blasphemy laws" even exist in modern non-Islamic countries. I say non-Islamic because from what I understand, blasphemy laws are pretty common in Islamic countries.

The weird thing is, I have watched van Gogh's film and it wasn't blasphemous in any real sense. It was one person questioning their god, trying to come to terms with the messages of their faith. It was perhaps a little simplistic, but not really blasphemous.

Blasphemy laws exist in England, and theoretically in Australia, and possibly other countries, BUT they have not been prosecuted under since the early 20th century in Australia, and the 1970s in england. The problem is that in Australia, there is not a state religion, in fact to set up one would be unconstitutional, but in England it has to be blasphemy against the anglican church. It's kind of silly really.
