  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Guys!

On Blaspheming,

When I was going through RCIA classes, my priest briefly mentioned a relligious order that, every time they hear someone blasphemes, they say something, I think a Glory Be, or something similar...

Has anyone heard of that order, maybe what it is called?

Also, what is the proper way to handle blaspheming these days? In the work place, etc...It's so sad, but in today's society it's such a common thing and my toes make fists in my shoes every time I hear that...

Thanks!
Peace in Christ!

I don't know what the order is called, but I think that they would most likely say the Divine Praises, which, as far as I know are meant as reperation for Blasphemies:

Divine Praises:

Blessed be God.
Blessed be His Holy Name.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.
Blessed be the Name of Jesus.
Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart.
Blessed be His Most Precious Blood.
Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.
Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most Holy.
Blessed be her Holy and Immaculate Conception.
Blessed be her Glorious Assumption.
Blessed be the Name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.
Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse.
Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints.
Amen

And, as to handling it: I asked our priest this question... He says there are two ways.

1) If you think that it will solve the problem, confront the person, and ask them to stop.

2) Walk away from the discussion.

I would like to add another:

3) Say an intercessory prayer for that person when you hear it, and the Divine Praises.

May the Lord Bless you, and keep you.:)

I know someone that whenever she heard the Lord's name taken in vain would say "Every knee bends!"

When asked about this, she would respond, "When you utter the Lord's name without respect, every knee of every angel and saint in heaven bends as they pray for your soul."
