  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When do you think it's a safe time to let babies sleep with one. Lilly has recently started sucking on everything. Her clothes, fingers, and straps of her car seat. She also drools alot. I bought her a blankie before she was born. It's really soft and small. I have included a pic of it below. She really likes the texture and to suck on it. But, I am not comfortable with her sleeping with it. She can lift her head up really good now for very long periods so I am not sure about it smothering her(Yes I am a very paranoid mommy:))...I don't even use blankets in her sleeper thing(plus she kicks them off anyway, when I did try it)..I just use a long sleeve and pant sleeper with footies to keep her warm at night. I think she would enjoy sleeping with it..but, I am not sure what age is good to start this. Any suggestions?

I would go with the expert recommendation to be safe, there are probably good reasons to wait.

Best to keep her dressed for sleeping with no blanket, just warm cotton pajamas (or light pjs if its warm already). (get cotton, polyesther makes them sweat and feel nasty, use cotton, layer if needed).

We gave our son the wraps we used to wrap him in when he got a bit older (he's 17 months). I think it was this winter mainly - so only since about april. We had about 6 of the same flannel wraps made up. That way if one needed to be washed no worries about separation. We also left one at my mum's, so that way we could afford to forget it.

I was paranoid about SIDS/suffocating. I finally gave David a blanket after he could walk at about 10 months. Then, I decided, he could handle a blanket. When he was younger, less than 6 months, I always put him in a "bag"..... its like a safe blanket. It has sleeves and a hole for the head but the bottom looks like a bag. He loved it and chewed on the sleeves every night. You can get them anywhere.

Thanks for your replies..was just curious when everyone else started leting their little ones sleep with a blankie. As above I don't let her sleep with one now. I did the first week she was home...until I read in my "What to expect the first year book", it was a bad idea. So since then we just do sleepers or a pair of pants with short sleeve shirt..depending on how the room feels temp wise.

One day I walk in to find that she has grabbed said blanket (which I tucked around the crib mattress very securely, or so I thought), ripped it up, turned onto her side and had the blanket all balled up in her face *completely* covering her nose and mouth and face. She was fast asleep. She also had part of the blanket in her mouth and was sleeping like that!

My daughter still does this and she is two. I cannot stand it but she balls up her favorite blankie and buries her head in it. It is not uncommon to walk in and see her asleep on her back with only her face covered with the blanket. She does this every night. I always take her blankie and cover it but when I go back in, there it is balled up over her face again. She's an odd one but I love her.
