• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ever had one of those days where everything seems distant? Where you are on auto pilot, going through the motions, people are talking at ya and youre only hearing half of what they say, if that much...it's like that teacher on Charlie borwn blawh blawh blawh blawh blawhh... and before you know it the day is over and you try to remember what you did ...but you can't quite remember anything?

Here but not here. I outa have a sign posted that reads vaccant. hibernating. comotose. something. Something so that everyone knows not to approach me about important things or things I should remember later on... until this FOG passes.

or am I just being wierd today?

I know I've got alota PM's in my box, but i can't focus enough for the life of me to respond intellengantlly to anyof them. sorry guys.

brain fog.

I know EXACTLY what you're going through. The past two weeks, I've been rapid cycling and I too, am on auto-pilot. Where my mind goes..........who knows?! But, I get through the day and can't recollect anything at all.
I have been off meds for two months and I have realized that, even though I like my job and I can really use it right now, what's left of my mind is more important. Thus, leaving me no other option than to go back on meds and quit my job.
I hope you get through it soon. If ya need to talk, feel free to pm me.

so what do you guys do to help snap yerself outa the brain fog or do you just try to ride it through?

For me personally, it just depends. With meds, I can usually get busy with coping skills and eventually I pull out of it after putting myself in a different mind-set. Times such as now, with no meds, I can try to get focused on something but my mind still over-rides me for it just keeps spinning faster and faster. There is nothing to help slow things down.

One thing I do to help me get through the brain fog is that I write everything down to remind me of what I have to do. Because when I get in a brain fog I can't remember everything. I write all my appointments down in a scheduler, write down things I need to do or get, sometimes days in advance just so I won't forget.

I don't think there is a lot we can do to prevent brain fogs. They just come and go. It could be part of our disorder or a side effect of some of the meds we take. All we can really do is prepare for them.

I have been weaned off lithium and geodon in the last three months and finally I feel like I can think, be creative, have energy, and able to complete tasks. I think being on lithium kept me in a real fog and I felt useless. Lately, I have had to handle some pretty big issues with my husband and trying to sell the home and I don't think I could've handled it while on lithium. It is nice not to be on auto-pilot.

I actually need my med ication to keep my thoughts from getting clouded. Without my meds, it is hard for me to follow a conversation. My meds correct that though.

That is the thing with being Bipolar. It affects each one of us differently and that is why it is so hard to diagnois. I am glad the meds work for you and clear your thoughts up. My meds help me to think more logically but they really mess with my concentration. And if there is a lot going on, it drives me up a wall. The benefits outway the side effects though and I would never come off my meds....:)
