  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I worked for a Major a couple years ago who was stationed at Ft Lewis when they were making that movie. He and a few other officers were tasked to help with the "realism" aspect of the film, sort of a PR kind of thing. He actually knew most of the guys in the movie (the real guys, not the actors), and he had quite a few interesting stories about hwta really happened. Let's just say that not everyone in the movie was portrayed accurately...

Really?

Granted, I don't know that much about it behind the scenes, but I remember some of the actors saying that a lot of the soldiers who were involved with the real operation were making sure the movie was as close to the truth as it could be.

Well, one thing I learned awful quick is that the Ranger community in the Army is a small one. Everyone knows everyone.

One example I can give is of a Colonel that I used to work with. Remember Tom Sizemore's character, he played the LTC who was trying like heck to get into the fight, but was blocked by some kind of roadblocks, etc? According to the Colonel, he knows the guy, and said he was a coward and the real story is that he actually avoided getting involved because he felt it was too dangerous. I know others who dispute this.

Regardless, it's a great movie. My point is not to trash anyone, just to say that Hollywood doesn't always portray things accurately. Whatever did happen, those guys are true heroes in my mind.

If you watch the special edition you can watch it with comentary from 3 of the guys who were there. Granted I think two of them were in the air and not on the ground. Regardless of that it is worth watching.

I know one guy who says he won't watch it because it brings back too many memories. Not that he was there, but he has been in combat from what I understand.

Hollywood never does, though I guess at times it can get closer than others.
