  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Bishop Gumbleton, perfectly "in communion with Rome," speaks. From LifeSite, with my emphasis:

Quote: U.S. Bishop Gumbleton Refuses to Offer Resignation at Mandatory Retirement Age

DETROIT, January 24, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - One of the most radical bishops in the US Catholic Church has said he will refuse to offer his resignation to the Pope when he reaches mandatory retirement age next week. Thomas Gumbleton auxiliary bishop of Detroit since 1968, says that he will not be forwarding his letter of resignation to the Vatican when he turns 75. “It’s so arbitrary,” he says. “Some of them they ignore, but if you are the least bit progressive, they accept it immediately.”

In comments to the Toledo Blade, Gumbleton reiterated the socialist doctrine popular among leftist “Catholics” that the purpose of the Church is not the salvation of souls from sin, but the alleviation of material poverty. He said, “If you are saving souls one at a time you really aren’t going to get very far.” The Church, he said, ought to “transfer this world into as close an image of the reign of God, what the reign of God might look like, as possible.”

Gumbleton has made a career of championing every fashionable leftist cause that came along in the 37 years of his episcopate. Lately he has championed the efforts of gay activists to abolish Catholic teaching on sexual morality. Most recently, he was praised by the leaders of the Rainbow Sash Movement, a group that is attempting to change Catholic doctrine to accept homosexual acts. Bishop Gumbleton, “has supported our call for inclusion,” said a press release from the Movement.

It is a disordered organization that promotes gay rights. They have been involved in many controversies around the english speaking world in regards to Mass, especially receiving communion. They have created many problems by interrupting Mass and presenting themselves for communion while at the same time promoting by the clothes they wear the homosexual lifestyle.

Some Bishops have shut them out of the church, such as Cardinal Pell of Sydney. Some Bishops have shown them support such as Archbishop Flynn of Minneapolis.

Them representing themselves for Communion would be what I would have a BIG problem with. I didn't know about this group til just today.

Yep, they are using Mass as a platform to promote their non-Catholic beliefs and it is sad that some Bishops allow them to do this.

Hence, one of the reasons why we need to pray for this Bishop Gumbleton, Archbishop Flynn, Cardinal Mahoney, among others and pray for Cardinal Pell and others that stand up against this group.

EVERY Bishop should be condemning this organization if they are promoting homosexual rights. We even had a bishop right here in Nebraska that told members of such groups, as well as so-called "catholics for a free choice", and those belonging to any masonic organisation to consider themselves excommunicated.
