Bishop Robert Barron pans ‘Conclave’ movie: ‘Run away from it as fast as you can’

Yet, the movie "Conclave," earned the best picture at the Screen Actors Guild last evening which makes it
a the top for an Oscar this Sunday.

Just goes to show that Hollywood hates the Catholic Church, and any devote Catholic who supports it as well.

Yeah I have been reading about this joke of a movie since it came out. No plans on wasting my time on it.

Yup. Hollywood is bigoted. Who knew? Imagine if they attacked homosexuals or Islam. The left would scream homophobia and Islamophobia.

SMH
And they’d be on hit lists.

Well, there have been times in history when the hierarchy of the vatican acted
as if it were a political entity, with political power brokers running it.

It is good to see a movie that at least has a number of compassionate
characters in it.

I'm not sure what is worse... One issue voting by North American
Christians, or "other-issue" voting as is seen in the movie.

I see North American Christianity as collapsing under a lack of (adult)
catechism, a rejection of the life of the mind, an apathy toward the
core teachings of Jesus, and a strange identification with political rage
(as a way of expressing the faith). And, the jacked-up-pickup-truck and
the Golden-Toilet interpretations of the Sermon on the Mount.

At least the movie is within reaching distance, of being used as a discussion
piece for serious trends, in North American Christianity.

The movie is based on fabricated information and has an anti-Catholic agenda, your
approval shows where you're coming from.

If the movie were about Muslims or Jews, the left would protest.

I would opt out of your criticism.

And that is because this is a secular film, and so I do not accept that
it addresses any Christian view of the Christian faith. It is a product
of the entertinment industry -- not a historical account of Catholicism.

It's about Catholicism, right? That's about Christianity as Catholics are Christians.

The movie is an insult toward Catholics. I can see this doesn't bother you.

Being considered for best picture doesn't mean that Hollywood hates the Catholic Church any more than the Passion of Christ meant Hollywood loves Jesus.

There is no "best picture" at the Screen Actors Guild. It isn't so much about giving awards to movies but rather giving awards to actors--it is the Screen Actors Guild, after all. What Conclave won was "Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture". In other words, it's a statement the acting was really good.

While I've seen people criticize the film, I haven't seen anyone criticize the acting in it. Indeed, even some of the quite negative reviews still say the acting is good.

From google;

Best motion picture cast
Conclave, a papal thriller, won the top prize for best motion picture cast at the 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards

I agree that there is no "best picture," award, but best motion picture cast. However, the award sets it
up for the best picture at the Oscars this week-end.

Anyway, it's a typical anti-Catholic motion picture that Hollywood put out.

We are on different sides of the Tiber but I agree with your perspective.
