I don't know but I know he is awesome and so annointed

You must mean he's a charismatic guy with a following. I'm sorry but apparently he's one of these word of faith preachers. Look him up in google. Hey, I used to listen to Creflo Dollar and Joyce Meyer. Now these teachers DO teach some good stuff, but looker a little closer there is error too that you can be believing without realizing it.

I admit I'm not really very familiar with Bishop Jakes other than that he does alot of teaching geared towards women.

I read the "heresy hunter" website posted earlier.. and while alot of charismatics tend to scorn people who dare to question the orthodoxy of any given christian leader, the website raises a valid point.
Their "criticism" of Jakes is based entirely on the fact that he used to be oneness and even since leaving the UPC he has refused to affirm the orthodox teaching of the trinity and has insisted on avoiding the issue or made statements which indicate that he still tends towards a oneness view.

Oneness is a heresy (I think its even recognized as such by the rules of this website.. though I'm basing that on memory).
The only question then is, is he really oneness. A number of his comments seem to indicate that he does not feel the issue of the trinity is really that important.. which I think is a dangerous view, a view i think that leads to idolatry (I'm getting that from my reading of "knowledge of the Holy" by Tozer.. he has alot of interesting things to say about the importance of how we think about God).

I've been skeptical of Jakes in the past based on things I heard about his political affiliations.. and I fully admit that what I heard is pretty much rumor that i havn't confirmed. I realise that many christians don't consider politics an issue of faith, but in my view if a person supports politicians that are pro-abortion etc, then the person is supporting those views. Again, I don't really know about Bishop Jakes.. I've just heard heresay for the most part.

I think that is untrue, based on things he has said.

Don't you find that kind of strange? A man ministering to women..? I do. There are a lot of good women speakers out there.

Janny,

I don't know enough about Jakes to say much in that respect. I don't know his personal ministry habits. I worked in a book store for several years and I know that virtually all his books were aimed at a female audience.

As for plenty of women speakers, I'm familiar with a few. Joyce Meyer I think is decent on practical application and practical living issues, however, theologicaly she has some problems.
I do think, especially on a local level, there is a lack of women discipling other women according to scriptural values. Most of what is geared at women these days in the church is all self empowerment gospel according to oprah kind of stuff. Christianity isn't about self empowerment, infact its nearly the opposite.
I'll stop before I get going on my rant about modern christianity selling its soul to the pop psychology industry. ;)

I am also from West Virginia and when my aunt told me he was from here, I was like "SERIOUSLY?!"

But yea he's awesome... but I don't listen to him that much. I'm more of a Joyce Meyers/Jesse Duplantis type.
