  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One thing I have never understood is why some people feel that it is sinful to use birth control (even with your own spouse)

Anyone on that side of the fence willing to share their opinions?

Everyone has a right to their own personal preference, but does your preference give you the right to send missionaries to AIDS ridden countries in Africa and teach them that condoms are evil? It seems to me that this mentality does more harm than good...

Your thoughts?

Ok, some people think abortion is wrong. You agree with this, right?
Also, some forms of birth control kill the zygote, which some people think is abortion.
Thus, some birth control to some people is like abortion. Now why people are against the use of a condom? Yeah, you can say it is unnatural, but so is your cereal or any other processed food you eat.

My post was directed at condom use, sorry if I was unclear. Other methods of birth control wouldn't help the struggle against AIDS anyway, it would just put a dent in the overpopulation problem.

I have a good friend who does not believe in birth control, she and her husband do not believe in any form, including abstaining on certain days of the month etc..
They believe God "opens and closes the womb". They do have 5 kids. She does sometimes comment she is not sure how she would handle it if she turned out to be extraordinarily fertile and had a baby every year.

They also do believe in some "fertility" treatments. Which for some of us can seem hypocritical because if you believe God opens and closes the womb..... it seems that one would have to accept an empty womb along with a full one. However they believe only in correcting medical problems. (such as treating any blockages of fallopian tubes or providing treatment for any hormonal problems causing infertility)

I don't agree with their understanding but I can't take any issue with their beliefs as they live them without forcing them on others, and they have been able to take good care of their larger family.

God guides us to be fruitful and multiply.

I am a man who works with trees, at least some. A tree is not fruitful if the fruit is not thinned. Instead of bearing good fruit it beasrs too many small fruits. None develop well and often the tree is broken.

Any Hebrew for 10 centries either direction of the birth of Jesus would have been very likely to know this.

A truely fruitfull tree brings forth good fruit. Same for humans.
