  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sadly not all Catholics are faithful to the teachings of the church. Pray a rosary for faithfulness to be restored.

Oh please.

Women have to take control of their bodies. Not everyone should be parents to multiple kids - if a woman doesn't want children, but wants to have sex, women [and men for that matter] have to take their reproductive systems into their own hands. Regardless of whether their partner is using contraceptives or not. One is responsible for their own body - and if a woman is uninterested in having kids [or more children], she has a duty to protect her body. As would any man. The Pill is one of the best, most reliable methods. If you choose to use the NFP - fine. I would just require more assurance - which is why I'm for contraceptives.

Regardless of my religious beliefs, I am for the birth control if someone feels the need to use it.

Likewise, anyone with an incredibly haywire menstrual schedule would realize that the NFP is difficult to chart.

It takes much effort - the Pill is a daily dosage that requires minimal effort providing one can tell time & remember to take it. Obviously, there are people who are careless when on the Pill, but there are just as many people who use it sucsessfully without complications.

There are things that aren't so great about the Pill. Getting on a good formulation is extremely important. But one should not forget its other properties - stabilizing the menstrual cycle, clearing up acne, etc.

No, that is wrong, our body is not our own. We belong to Christ when we are Christians. Children are blessings from God. Who are we to decide to stop God's will, His blessings? There is God's righteousness and our righteousness, which is as filthy rags.
The birth control pill takes a healthy woman's body and causes it to be broken, to not function properly. It doesn't matter "if a woman doesn't want children, but wants to have sex" but what God wants that matters.

If the Pill was as damaging as you claim it to be, why is it still being prescribed? Some doctors are quacks, and maybe some women take the Pill without researching it first. So, there are women on dosages they maybe shouldn't be, and those who smoke when on the Pill, as well as those who's bodies just physically can't handle the Pill. Yes, the Pill is not perfect, and it takes much thought before [and while] on it, but for those who choose to take the Pill, the risks are outweighed by the benefits. Aspirin, tylenol, alcohol, food, etc. can be damaging if misused improperly. People choose to use these substances because the benefits outweigh the risks.

Nope, thats against the Catholic teachings quirk.

I'm aware. Obviously, that's a church view that I personally disagree with.

Then anyone should pray to God instead of imposing their will on the situation.

All drugs have risks and side effects, but if your ill and you need the drug to be better, you may accept the side effects. The pill doesn't fix a medical condition, it alters a healthy functioning reproductive system and alters it so it cannot function.

Not everyone believes in God.

All drugs have risks and side effects, but if your ill and you need the drug to be better, you may accept the side effects. The pill doesn't fix a medical condition, it alters a healthy functioning reproductive system and alters it so it cannot function.

It alters it while one is actually on the Pill. Its a choice by the user.

You're also forgetting the Pill is prescribed by OB/GYN's if a female hasn't menstruated, or if her menstrual cycle is out of whack. As well as if someone is suffering from extreme acne. Those are health symptoms as well - making the Pill as beneficial as an Aspirin is for a headache.

Anyone who's on the Pill should be aware of the risks before they take it - as I imagine anyone who goes to their OB/GYN or Planned Parenthood should be. Heck, if you've seen a television commercial, you'd be aware that the Pill comes with risks.

So, those who have complications give the anti-Pill brigade some fuel. However, it doesn't take away the fact that the majority of women, with involved OB/GYNs, who use it correctly can prevent pregnancy without damaging their bodies.

Let's not forget - having kids presents risks as well. With pregnancy & child-rearing requiring much more responsibility than remembering to take the Pill.

If God's will is for us to have cancer, who are we to stop God's will? Do you see the error of your logic there? I hope you do.

People have a habit of only using the stopping God's will when it comes to having babies for some reason. But things like cancer and other things..nope usually people will see no problem in someone getting treatment for cancer..odd huh?

People who donlt want kids shouldn't be parents period. People who can;t afford more children should try their hardest to avoid having kids. However in a marriage years of abstinance can do damage. Also the birth control pill doesn;t damage or ruin a womans body that notion is just silly. In fact when I was in birth control I never felt better usually especially at that time of the month. ;)

What I mean is that people will often pull the your altering your body and opposing God;s will! line when it comes to women avoiding getting pregnant by taking the pill. But rarely will you see someone say you got chemo! Your damaging your body and going against God;s will! That cancer was God's will! Now there are some extreme people though that do believe that you should just rely on God to heal you..and if he doesn;t well it was just your time to die. I don.t think I have seen anyone like that on this forum though. But is that clearer? sorry I suck at explaining things :(

People also have a habit of camparing God's blessings to the curse in cancer as if the new life of a baby is some evil parasite. That is a morbid way to view our offspring.

Yeah, I mean, it almost sounds like you think cancer is God's will, or that pregnancy is a disease. I'm sure that's not what you believe, but it can be taken kind of like that. :|

Babies/fetus' themselves may not be evil parisites.

But an unplanned pregnancy can be a burden on a marriage or on a woman's life.

A sister-in-law visiting can be temporary. You have to agree with it, I imagine. At least passively.

A child is a responsibility that can last a life-time, 18 years at least. That's far different than having a relative be an inconveinience for a week.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice wink-ing emoticon. Lack of sleep.

Yes I was kidding about the sister-in-law especially since my wife might read this.

But a child being a burden is no reason for an abortion. But then again I am one who believes there never is a reason.

Yes, I understand now. And don't worry, you don't suck at explaining things. I probably just suck at understanding things. ;)

That said, I plan to get on the Depo Provera birth control shot soon. That will be David and I's method of contraception. We are not ready to have a child yet though we do want to have a child in the future.
