• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

many drug companies have programs through the doctors office to get people their meds even when they cannot afford them. Its a bit of paperwork at first, but you get your meds for free or really cheap from your doc.

Very true. My doctor gave me 2 weeks of meds for free to give me time to get my insurance worked out. The pharmacy told me the drug companies that help people get their meds for free or low cost can take up to 6 weeks. If I can't get prescription coverage thats what I plan to do. Found out Friday I do have medical through the state because I am on "life sustaining medication" Now I have to fill out another form to see if I can get prescriptions covered...which I'd better get since my monthly paycheck is over 100 dollars less than my prescription costs alone.

The drug company programs are usually called Patient assistance programs and are available for many meds that are not generic. Just google the trade name of the drug plus patient assistance program and you should be able to find an application and qualifying info online. I just looked it up for cymbalta for a friend with depression. The application then can be filled out and taken to a dr appt as they usually require the doc to prescribe and hold med supplies. They sent a 6 month supply to my doc many years ago and she just gave me a month's at a time. I was able to do this for a year. It helped greatly with the budget (not my moods though :) as I was being treated for depression and not bipolar!)

There are also groups that you can pay a small amount of money to that will help with the sign up etc. BUT THE DRUG COMPANIES PROVIDE THE MEDS FOR FREE, SO WHY PAY SOMEONE IF YOU CAN DO THIS YOURSELF! I do not know if these groups can get generic meds as I have not ever had experience with them. Perhaps someone else here has that info!
