• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was recently diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder. This means that there are days where I'll eat non-stop whether I'm hungry or not followed by days when I starve myself or simply forget to eat. I've gone three days without food before. I've been trying to regulate my food intake, but it's so hard...There have been times where I've just not wanted to eat at all in an attempt to lose weight. Though my logical mind tells me that a 19-year-old, 5 foot tall, 94 pound girl couldn't possibly be overweight...I feel fat after I binge, so that's when I starve myself for a couple of days. I'm not really sure what to do about it...Any kind of advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

Hey hun,

Just want to offer you some support. I know what your going through, being diagnosed with an eating disorder is never easy. You are not alone though, remember that. When you first get diagnosed usually the first thing you want to do is beat it but then its really hard to change. The one piece of advise I can give you is don't try to beat it alone. Work with your doctor and other professionals you need to see but also don't shut your friends out of this. You need them. Also if you want to talk at any point feel free to pm me. You can beat this sweetie, it will take time and you will need to be patient with yourself but you can get through it. Keep your chin up. :)

I'm not a psychiatrist or doctor but binge eating disorder is typically compulsive overeating/binge eating without any kind of purging or starving. Someone who binges and then starves is usually diagnosed as EDNOS or BED with anorexic tendencies

I have BED as well, and I struggle with it daily. I would recommend journalling, as it helps to understand why you eat, when you're eating, how you're feeling when you eat and so on. One of the most important things to remember is that it's not your fault. There are a variety of reasons why we overeat, and many of them have to do with things that have happened in our pasts, traumas, difficult situations, even stress!

The book, "Women Food and God" by Geneen Roth is excellent. She suffered with BED for years. She also has a bunch of other books in the series dealing with compulsive overeating.

I have the same disorder. I am praying for all of you. Some of us have been abused badly, including me, and this seems to be what some of us turn to to stuff down our feelings. I agree about keeping a food journal as to what we eat, when we eat and how we are feeling and add what else we can do about it besides eat ourselves to death.

I have been diagnosed with binge eating disorder as well. I reached a point where I was managing it OK until I tried to lose weight. I can give you my tips on managing it if you like, just PM me if you are interested :)

Hi Kitty Vel,

Before it becomes the stage for Hospital and more Hospital visits on a regular basis and all of the atrocities that go with it, my suggestion is for you to pray and open up your Heart to Jesus and Our Lady Mary for Her Divine Holy Intercession.

There are many ways to do this in order for Jesus to heal you completely.

Let me know if you wish to follow up on some of the steps to fully trust in Him and hand over your condition for the good of your Life and Soul journey!

I have applied for a Thread and its awaiting approval given am new here!

Kindest wishes
