So most of us have seen the show Biggest Loser, even if it just flipping through the channels. It's a great show that promotes healthy weight loss AND weight maintenance.

We talked about this a long time ago, but it kind of died out and nothing came of it. I want to bring this subject back up and see if anyone is interested.

I believe everyone of us knows there are a lot of us here on CF that need to lose weight. Whether it be 10 pounds or 150 pounds, there are those of us that just need to start taking our health serious and make it a priority in life.

I am proposing a CF Biggest Loser competition! This is going to be to promote lifestyle changes, not just weight loss. I want to start taking my health seriously and would like to join together with others like me who want to take their health seriously as well So, this goes beyond just losing weight. This is about total health.

If Spicy is willing, I would like to make this a team competition! Basicly, we would be the trainers. Our job is to hold our teams accountable, post tips and hits, encourage our team, and be there to help with any questions.

So, Spicy (or if he declines, we can find another trainer) and I would be the trainers. You sign up on this thread if you want to participate. We have a draft where we break people up into teams. Most likely, drawing names at random or simply just cutting the list in half will happen as this is not a popularity contest.

This is my proposal:

1. This is a friendly competition to promote health. There may be blessing and/or other prizes involved for the winning team.

2. There will be 2 team leaders, myself and spicy or another member.

3. If you want to join, sign up on this thread. We will later assign you to a trainer.

4. You will be required to report your weight and progress to a trainer at regular intervals. This is 100% confidential and no one will share your weight with others.

5. We will use this thread or another to post tips, healthy recipes, etc... If you have a healthy snack you found that tastes good, share with the others.

6. Although this is a friendly competition, we need to take health very seriously. Before doing any specific diet changes, you need to talk to a doctor. If you are going to chose a specific fad diet, such as South Beach or Atkins, do NOT do this before you talk to a doctor. Simply eating more fruits/veggies and less starches/fat and adding some exercise to your life is something everyone should do. If at any point you feel something is not right, stop.

7. I would like to promote total health as well. That means finding people/friends for you to talk to about other issues as well. Just a listening ear can help.

I hope this makes sense and I laid everything out there the right way. This is not just for singles. If you are married/engaged/dating or just a moderator assigned to the forum and you want to participate, you are more then welcome.

This thread is primarily to see if anyone is interested.

If you have any suggestions/comments or if you think some changes need to be made to what I have posted, give me the feed back here. Also, if you are in, sign up here so I can see how many people are interested.

Thanks

I think it's a great idea but I have one comment to make...I am doing Atkins and it works great for me...I'm not extreme with it and do not cut out all carbs but I do cut back on the unhealthy carbs.

If I choose to participate am I going to be encouraged to not follow Atkins???

No, that is fine. All I do encourage is that if you choose to follow an established diet such as Atkins, Fat Smash, South Beach, etc... that you talk to a physician if you have not already done so.

My only issue with fad diets is they seem to be temporary. I like to focus on more of a lifestyle change.

All fad diets have their good points. I am not necessarily against them, as long as the person changes their life style. Losing weight is only one part of the overall equation.

I agree Coach and for me it is a lifestyle change...I feel like I'm a total carb addict and I need to lead a low carb lifestyle.

I agree as well that it is best to consult a physician prior to starting a "fad" diet...I have and have the approval of my physician - again, I'm not an extreme Atkins follower...I still like me some carbs :D

Ok...I'm in on the challenge

I am a fan of lifestyle changes...

So I was looking over the net the last couple of days reading up on different diets. I was wanting to see if there are any out there that promote lifestyle change over simply promising weight loss.

I found one I think I am going to try. I will see what happens. I've tried all the weight loss drugs, etc... and that stuff is just a waste of money. I finally came to the conclusion that if it were really that simple, no one would be fat. So, I am going to look at this lifestyle diet change and see if I think it works for me.

I will report back periodically to let you know how it works.

yeah let's do it.

I haven't forgotten the August to August thing we have going either though.

I myself have gone from 200 to 224 over 2007.

I'm not bummed about that at all because while some of it is fat, a good portion of that is muscle (my max lifts are all up, my shirts are tight in the chest/shoulders but about the same in the waiste).

Still though, it's time to get going on the fat loss so I can be presentable by summer.

I think I just need to get under 210, stretch goal of 200 lbs.

But yeah, I'm up for coaching/leading a team.

I've used them.

I never expect fat loss from them though, so I just keep them on hand as a low calorie souce of caffiene-like side effects because going from 4,000 cals a day down to 1,500-2,000 is a big drop for me.

I'm in!

I'm not obese or anything, but I know with my family's bad health history that I'm going to need to actually work hard to get and stay really healthy. I've already got the food part down pretty well (could still use a little improvement), but I know what I'm missing is some good cardio. I've been doing some strength training with weights and my gazelle pretty faithfully lately, and I've actually lost 5 pounds since January!

I've started the hunt for a good gym on southside OKC, since I'm in the area for class 4x a week. I love running, and there's just not a good way to do it in my area. I think I'm going to make a goal to be a certain size by July, so that my bridesmaid's dress has to be taken in for my friend's wedding.

So, yeah, this idea couldn't have come at a better time for me.

The exercise issue is a big one for me as well. When I put my mind to it, I can do the food thing with relative ease. I understand it pretty well. The knowledge isn't the issue for me, it's the motivation I struggle with.

My bicycle got stolen this past fall. I lost a lot of motivation after that because I was angry and frustrated that someone took something I worked so hard for.

Well, when my tax return stuff gets completed this spring, i am going to buy a new bicycle and help use that a tool to pick up on the exercise.

I'm 5'6" and 135lb, so I'll just be watching (with an evil smile on my face) you guys being losers.
Wow, if that's how you encourage people - I'd hate to see how you tear them down. lol

BTW - I was 5'6" by the time I was 10 years old. lol

I'm interested in joining. However, I would request that I must make my weigh-ins public. The reason for this is that it will better motivate me if more than one or two people can see my results. Also, I'm getting an extra accountability partner besides whoever my trainer is.

If that's okay, count me in!

You can post your weigh-ins. That is not a problem at all. However, I am not going to post anyone's weight for them... the only exception would be if someone reached their ultimate goal and asked me to post it for them. Under those circumstances, I would think they person would want to do it themselves anyways.

I talked with D earlier. Here is something I thought of but was waiting for someone to bring it up....

I think we are going to assign a female "trainer" to each of the male "trainers" as well. If you are a female and uncomfortable reporting your weight to a man, you can talk to the female trainer. The only thing she will inform the male of is the pounds lost or gained, not your actual weight.

For example. Sue is on my team but is not comfortable telling her weight to a man. So, I have a training partner, Mary, and sue tells her the weight for the weigh-in reports. Mary simply tells me, "Sue has lost 4 pounds this week." Or "Sue has gained 2 pounds."

I don't want to alienate anyone for comfort reasons. I think accountability is a huge issue and I want you to be able to report weight to whomever you choose.
