  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Try getting some new friends who don't pressure you.

Try taking a few minutes to type your post, and remember to hit that little 'spellcheck' button on the bottom of the post window.

There is nothing wrong with alcohol in moderation, just like everything else. The problem only arises when it exceeds 'moderation'.

Also, how do you come to the conclusion that one who drinks is automatically boring and weak and a coward when they are sober?

I mean, really now. You don't drink (although your posting style might indicate otherwise...). Good for you. That does not, however, mean that anyone who drinks is immoral, weak, and cowardly.

You are right soulful. Drinking's Barney mate!
The Bible does not tell us specifically NOT to drink. But there are principles which we can walk away with. For instance:

The Bible says that we should not be drunk: Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

The Bible's commentary on alchoholic beverages: Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

It may be used for medicinal purposes. Paul tells Timothy to use a little wine for his infirmities: 1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

The Bible tells us to flee temptations. Are most people tempted to have more if they have one? Or tempted to have one when, cirumstances dictate that they should have none?
Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Mark 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

The Bible tells us to abstain from all appearances of evil. What kind of troubles come to mind, that you have noticed or have been told about, that teens often get into when they are under the influence of the bottle? Is it not evil to do that which you should not? It is very appealing to teens to drink because, after all, it is something they should not do. It's in our nature.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child...

Continue as you are, to do the right thing: James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

So, mate, the Bible does not say DO NOT DRINK. But, you can clearly see why you would not want to. I hope this is a help to you.

Your servant in Christ,

Been to a few weddings in my lifetime. IMO they were not having one drink or seeking medicinal remedies when they ran out of wine in Canaan. They were having a good time. The alcohol facilitates some of that if not done in excess and our Lord made more. My thought is too many parents never teach their kids that they can drink responsibly. They go off to college and go wild with something they were never taught to handle. Some of them are ok for the experience and learn to deal with it after a few really bad hangovers, some get into serious trouble and no doubt a few suffer for it the rest of thier lives or worse die a senseless early death. To me the "problem" with kids and young adults drinking starts with the parents.

In my view there is nothing wrong with drinking, but excessive binge drinking usually indicates a problem, either an emotional problem one is trying to numb or a fear of self-expression that drinking dulls. I do not think having some drinks poses a big problem for Christians unless they are using getting drunk as an excuse not to live up to the tenets of their faith - something I have seen some of my friends do. Personally, I don't drink, not for religious reasons but because I don't like it too well. I used it as an excuse to "be myself" for a long time and quit when I realized I could just express myself all the time without it. Also, have seen too many friends seriously mess up their lives when drinking excessively.
