I turned in my application yesterday morning, and I have to go back next week to pay for and schedule an entrance exam (which I'm VERY nervous about).
What does it take to be a nurse, my sister in law just got into nursing and it seemed very quick, but I didnt ask what she went through..
I'm a wordy gal as you know Roja, so I'm going to try to keep this quick (so you won't regret asking....lol).
You basically have to have your Associates of Science degree BEFORE you can get into the Nursing program. Luckily a lot of the required courses were courses I had already taken 20 years ago, when I was fresh out of high school.
I went to college back then pursuing a career in accounting (don't ask me why) so I hadn't taken any science courses, and I'm glad it worked out that way. I started back to college in the Fall of 2006 and I've basically had science course after science course every semester since then.
There's a long list of classes you have to complete before you can apply and the science courses include Biology, Anatomy and Physiology I & II, & Microbiology. All of those are very difficult classes at my college, but I'm happy to say I got all A's since my return to college (thank you Father).
My college is very competitive for the Nursing program and there are usually over 200 applicants for 70 spots.
Needless to say, your grade point average has to be impeccable and you have to do extremely well on the entrance exam (it covers math, science, etc....) to even be considered.
I have an excellent GPA (even though I goofed off a lot my first time in college), and I'm studying for the entrance exam, so God willing..............

Wow, it almost seems it's easier to be a doctor!
Actually, it is!
My Anatomy professor kept pushing me to become a doctor because he said I "think" like one (I'm still not sure if that was a compliment or not...haha), but I'm 39 years old. I might further my education and try to become a Nurse Practitioner but I'll have to wait and see if that's God's plan for me.
Considering my age, my plan is to be a nurse for about 10 years and then I'd really, really love to teach Nursing. That's my goal, at least for now.
