• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Big CF change

While that's true that doesn't excuse the public reactions that some of had. They're acting a bit like 2 year olds who did not get their way. Its ridiculous. I'm glad we do have mods like you and Athene though who can handle things with maturity and welcome change. (and not get huffy leave and make their own little forum)

I never thought I would say this in a million years, but if only the world were a little more like the new and improved CF.

I'll have to have a look at the other threads about this...I wonder how many people are saying this is a sign that the Rapture could be at any moment? ;)

Other mods do share that view. It's drastic changes and people need time to adjust. Change is a tough pill to swallow.
Yes it is, too many people speculating about this and that, when what they really need to do is just wait and see what actually happens. I don't think its going to be all that bad personally.

Even more than looking forward to the changes, I am happy to learn that this apparently is the spirit that Erwin wanted this forum to have all the time.

In my observation there had always been a strange contrast between the intentions as described by Erwin and the reality on CF.

Sounds like this could become the kind of board that I have always wished it were.

So when are you all you non-christians going to take over the CO area, appoint yourselves as mods, and start persecuting true bible-believing christians? ^_^
I'm just going to be a typical unbiased observer, trying to combat adverseriality.

Feel free to point out my contradictions, so I can also harp on at atheists!:D

Well my point wasn't to excuse anyone's behavior but I think perhaps your assessment is a tad harsh. Like I said change is tough and for many Christians on this board including mods this is their only form of church/fellowship with other Christians and they see that as being taken away. I don't see that happening but I can understand the reaction people are having.

Are there some who are just completely over reacting, sure there are but most are just filled with uncertainty at this point and are reacting out of fear.

Also it isn't just mods.

I just noticed from a post (sparklecat's, I believe) in the Women's forum in the Christians Only section that not all here know that there are a LOT of [open] threads in the Christians Only section!

There are, and you can all post there. I don't know when the new rules will begin but until they do, there are the [open] tags that enable non-christians (or non-nicene creed christians) to post.

Especially in the liberal forum Whosoever Will May Come, and the women's forum there are a lot of [open] threads (though you have to be a female adult to be able to post in the women's forum). We all love our non-christian sisters in the women's forum!

Just so you know!

Having looked through a few threads the main concern of some of the Christians on the former "closed" Boards is that we atheists are going to be like the ravaging hordes rampantly running through the entire Board, bringing destruction with us.

(One on the Creationist Board said effectively "Is it open Season On Us Now?"

While I can only speak for myself, I do not believe that this will happen. Oh sure, there will always be the odd idiot who decides to spam the more Christian oriented forums (fora?) but that could have been done anyway, simply by creating a false persona. And I imagine that the rules will cover that sort of situation anyway.

Personally, and I can only speak for myself, I will continue only to frequest the 3-4 forums that I am already active in. I suspect that most of us will.

Anybody who tries otherwise has waaayyy too much time on their hands and will get awfully sick of it pretty quickly.

What they need to realise is that they can make forum specific rules which forbid debate on creationism in their own forum.

http://www.christianforums.com/t5669830-the-creation-of-subforum-rules.html

Initial guideline for the creation of subforum rules:
1. A subforum rule cannot deny entry
2. A subforum rule can limit subforum debate
3. A subforum rule can exclude specific topics from being posted
