That doesn't say that Democrats "fought" it. It says they didn't take it seriously. It quotes Pelosi as calling it merely a rehash of other stuff that hadn't worked. Note that this was in the context of a government shutdown deal, where they had to get something done quickly. Regurgitating previously-failed ideas is not a good way to get something done quickly. I used the wrong word but did they even try to work it out? Trump did this for the border wall and tried to get Democrats to join in by offering amnesty to the Dreamers which was a hot issue during Obama. There were no takers why?
I explained that in the rest of my post. At the time he made that suggestion, they were under the gun and needed ideas that could get enough votes to pass quickly. Trump's amnesty ideas had already failed. Re-proposing failed ideas is not a way to get things through quickly.
