News flash. Establishment Republicans also want uncontrolled borders, too. That's why Paul Ryan drug his feet getting anything passed when the GOP had the majority.

Evidence? As I recall, the far right was crying about AMENSTY.

Don't need a quote for that. Just check out any news source - even the Biden fan boy news sites.

And you have to wonder why it hasn't happened yet.

It's no mystery. Over the past decade+, the GOP prefers to use illegal immigration as a wedge issue rather than work with Democrats to pass implement comprehensive immigration reform.

There have been times when our government has been unified by Dems or Rep. If you go back and look why wasn't action taken on amnesty? Neither side wants amnesty.

Refer to efforts of the far right to undermine S744 in 2013....by crying "Amnesty"

I agree that most people would prefer people enter the country - the legal way. The reality is our immigration system has been broke for 3 decades. As a result, we now have multt-generational families living here illegally. Any realistic solution will provide some roadway to citizenship. "No Amnesty" is based on a fantasy.

The government wasn't unified then.

It died in the House.

The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 (Bill S.744)[2] was a proposed immigration reform bill introduced by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) in the United States Senate.[3] The bill was co-sponsored by the other seven members of the "Gang of Eight", a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators who wrote and negotiated the bill. It was introduced in the Senate on April 16, 2013, during the 113th United States Congress.

The Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on the bill in April 2013.[4] The bill was voted out of Committee on May 21, 2013, and was placed on the Senate calendar.[5] On June 27, 2013, the Senate passed the bill on 68-32 margin. The bill was not considered by United States House of Representatives and died in the 113th Congress.

A bi-partisan group of Senators drafted the legislation. The far right killed it.
Your focus is on a particular date in time but when Obama mentions amnesty Republicans fought it and When Trump mentions amnesty Democrats fought it. Our politicians don't want a sitting president to look good because today it's all about the party and not for the people. Even Biden had the chance to propose amnesty in his first two years in office but it wasn't brought up until the Republicans took the House. They are using the issue to create what we see going on in this forum and across the nation, it's all about votes. I agree Republicans are more against amnesty but history shows that Democrats use it for votes. If this was taken care of what other issue would the parties use?

Yes, I mentioned 2013 as this was the last bill that was seriously under consideration...and was killed by the far right talking points.

When did Trump propose amensty? As I recall, Democratic leaders met with Trump at the White House and were ready to support an immigration deal. Trump backed out.

When did that happen?

I think what you mean is that it wasn't brought up until Democrats took control of the Senate.
