The announcement was made by the White House on Sunday night. The pardon applies to offenses against the U.S. that Hunter Biden "has committed or may have committed" from Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 1, 2024.

"Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter," Biden wrote in a statement. "From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted."

President Biden pardoning his son is a departure from his previous remarks to the media over the summer, declaring he would not pardon the first son.

"Yes," President Biden told ABC News when asked if he would rule out pardoning Hunter ahead of his guilty verdict in the gun case.

Days later, following a jury of Hunter’s peers finding him guilty of three felony firearm offenses, the president again said he would not pardon his son. ''

"I am not going to do anything," Biden said after Hunter was convicted. "I will abide by the jury’s decision."

Trump asks about 'J-6 Hostages' in response to Biden's pardon of Hunter: 'Such an abuse'

"Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years?" Trump wrote. "Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!"

"The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system," Trump's incoming White House communications chief Steven Cheung said in a statement to Fox News.

This is a ridiculously bad look for Biden and the whole democratic party, and anyone who doesn't condemn this blatant abuse of power has no leg to stand on when it comes to criticising whatever pardons Trump will implement.

This whole presidential pardon business really must go, but neither party would remove it when they profit from it, much like all the other kinks in any political system.

Trump needs a pardon on the guilty verdicts in Manhattan, Trump resigns 1 day before Jan 20th and he lets Vance pardon him, lol!
The Manhattan verdicts were state convictions, not federal ones. A president can only pardon someone for federal crimes.

The pardon isn't really the issue. It's what proceeded it.

I think that it's a major issue if what RT News claims is true.

Not good, but honestly this just seems to be the game that’s being played now.

Let’s not pretend like Trump isn’t going to do the same with the Jan 6 mob etc too.

There are clearly some reforms needed in what the President can and cannot do, and checks and balances restored as there was always intended to be.

What I should've said is presidential pardons in general isn't really the issue. With this it's everything that followed up to it that's the issue.

Personally I think it was all about showing that the president and the DOJ weren't in cahoots to take down Trump. With Hunter as the sacrificial scapegoat.

Now that the election is over, there's no need to maintain the charade. Hunter might have been in for a full stretch if Harris had won.

True but no harm, Biden's on his way out. When you think about it what would you do if your child was going to prison and you had the power to free him? I would release him just to keep the old lady from nagging me for the whole time he's in prison. Mama and her babies!

I guess it's no harm if Biden does not care about his historic image. This act alone stinks up his whole political career.
