  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This all brings me back to before- why support it? If you are a 'good' Catholic, really Fish, why? Why on earth?

Hey, why don't you ask Joe Biden? My religious affiliation is kind of vague, and I'm for overturning Roe versus Wade. Biden's the committed Catholic who's for Roe vs. Wade. I can think of some good reasoning he might have, but ultimately I obviously wouldn't agree with it. I'm not the person to ask. I'm just voting for him. ;)

anyway, if Biden's da man- why Bams?
Um, because Obama won the primary, and then needed a running-mate with some different qualities to balance the ticket? I don't understand your line of reasoning here. What do you expect Obama to pick a clone of himself as VP? Are you upset with the Democratic Party for picking Obama instead of Biden? It doesn't sound like you like either of them.

Bams is generation X
He's older than that.

as well as Malcolm X. Know what I mean?
Well, if you mean that you don't like that Obama is black, then I guess you don't need to explain further. If you mean something less racist, you may have to explain further. :) Other than the color of their skin, Obama and Malcom X are nothing alike. Malcom X was a radical working outside the system (At least until toward the very end of his life after he had sort of a spirtual rebirth on a pilgrimage to Mecca that moderated his views), Obama is a mainstream liberal working within the system . Malcom X was a Muslim, Obama is Christian.

His dad was high ranking military Fish-- Bams dad was a radical Muslim politician in Africa.. HUGE difference. lol.

Barack Obama's dad was an atheist, and played no role in raising Barack. Barack Obama's grandfather, who did help raise Barack, was an American military veteran.

I guess with Obama and Biden's pro-choice (anti-Life) stance, the good Bishop of Denver, Archbishop Chaput probably would not want to speak or pray at the Democratic Convention, especially with a pro-choice Catholic onboard the presidential ticket.

Anyone else notice that Biden looks suspiciously like short hand for Bin Laden ?

BI(N) (LA)DEN

LOL. Looking at an advance screening of the next McCain campaign ad? ;) The sad part is, I'm not entirely sure I'm joking -- some of McCain's ads and rumor campaigns have been pretty vicious.

There is no such thing as a pro-choice Catholic. You are either a pro-life Catholic or not a Catholic at all.

Biden takes an Amtrak train home every night from the Senate to go back to his home in Delaware and rides around in his pickup truck (Driving himself) on the weekends doing things like dumping loads of mulch. I mean, they may all be somewhat out of touch, obviously being a politician is much different from being a blue-collar worker, but Biden seems a lot more in touch than McCain, who doesn't fill his own gas tank, drive his own car, or know how many houses he has off the top of his head (Seriously, he was asked and wasn't sure -- the answer is 7).

This is what I mean, you really think these two senators have any room to judge any other senator when it comes to the wealth they acquired as senators? Bams bought his house from a crook and didn't' pay what it was really worth.

Bama's been there only 2 years, last year he made 4 million, how he made that? Is that a senators salary? So if we give him 30 years, how much then will he make?

They all and I don't care who it is, all of them go in with nothing and come out millionaires, it's wrong Fish. And then they want to penalize citizens for their wealth that they acquired. It's really wrong.

and you want to talk about ending poverty? 50 million is it, that Bams has raised to do what? Feed the poor? No to run for president. How pathetic is that? PPl will donate for this cause and not to feed the poor in this country and others. And he helped raise money to kill off Hills debt-- must be nice when you have millions but you need to ask the public to wipe out your debt.

So Fish you are disillusioned real bad with politics, you put way to much faith into these fallen men, sorry. The government can not end human suffering, the poor we will always have with us, and it's up to us, (you and me) to serve the poor. We can not put our faith in the government to do it. All they have done is steal from us all off, Fish and you are dillusioned if you think otherwise.

BTW, have you heard about Bams half brother in Africa (i think it is)? Bams meet him in 06 and the guy was embarrassed because Bams is well off and important and he is poverty stricken making like a dollar a day or week or something. Bmas never mentioned him but once, said he was a round headed nice boy.

Sooo... if you make millions, can't end the poverty of your own brethren in your native land?

Real quick Fish, I get that you really in your heart believe the demos are good warm party that will save the world if the mean bad republics would just go along with all they say but in reality, you really can not defend what they are doing any more then you can not defend what you feel Bush has done.

If you really think about it, Bush went through more then any other President had to go through that was totally beyond his control and they want to demonize him. Face it, Clinton dealt with very little other then his own scandal that he created for himself with that young girl. His administration was a day in the park compared to Bush's and why? Because of the 12 years of work the Reagan/Bush put in cleaning up after the worse president of all-- Carter. Clinton rode on those coat tails, face it and had it pretty easy.

Now this Bush, he was hit with a lot almost from day 1 so that changed the course of his adminstration. No one can say what would have worked better because no one knows, no one else went through it.

And what really, really makes me angry is some issues like 911, like Katrina are sacred and should have never been politicalized but they were and still are and that really burns me up. You talking about real trauma and real loss of life and they want to use it for gain. they are all sicko's Fish who is waaaay out of touch.

Why then if he is for something you are against. Makes little sense.

Why did he even win if he needs this guy to pick up his slack?

Why didn't y'all just vote for him, especially if he is needed for something, I dunno like, nation security because Bams don't know his butt from the ground when it comes to that.
He's older than that.

He is up there as a marketing strategy Fish. They are selling him as magic in a bottle. They are trying to re create what Regan had, what Kennedy had what even Clinton had that he obviously has no more. But these ppl were authentic, Bams is a image that has been created. That's why they picked Biden.

Barack Obama's dad was an atheist, and played no role in raising Barack. Barack Obama's grandfather, who did help raise Barack, was an American military veteran.

The point was Fish, you are trying to discredit McCain for being born where he was when he was born to military, Fish. As if deflection means something.

You know he is a citizen and there is no question of that and you know it's darn honorable as well but Bams was adopted in Indonesia by an Indonesian man and in that country adoption makes you their citizen and it is being said citizenship for him was never applied for correctly when he came back here.

awesome post~the entire thing is corrupted yet what is the fix? If the Church will continue to be and do that which it is called to do then that is the fix, since the sins of the corrupt will eventually bring down the individuals and the system. The crash may be catastrophic for them, but our hope and trust is not in the system:clap:

I'm thinking about it right now.

Al Quaeda bombed the World Trade Center because Bush ignored memos that went by his desk several months earlier.

He tripled the deficit in 8 years because he passed huge new tax cuts while initiating a Medicare prescription plan for seniors and waging a war. He was the first President in history to cut taxes while waging war.

(Why did he pass the Medicare prescription plan, you ask? Because if he hadn't have advocated a prescription plan of some sort he would have lost the election.)

He had a few advisors with character and integrity (Colin Powell, who is about to endorse Obama next week, and Paul O'Neil) and drove them off because he made up his mind before he had any facts and wouldn't even read the dumbed-down reports they gave him.

He fabricated evidence to get us into the war in Iraq and his aides outed a CIA agent to punish her ambassador-husband for spreading the truth that Iraq didn't have any.

Every problem that he has (and, unfortunately, that we have) has been due to his own bungling and ineptitude. At least Democratic majorities in Congress since 2006 have provided some damage control to limit the trouble he can cause.
