Looking Up
No attack was perceived, I merely expressed my disagreement and reasons for doing so.ahh, I was only sharing my position and why I believe it, not trying to attack you for your beliefs.
The issue of slandering W&H aside, I've looked at the differences and what they "speak for themselves" is that the differences are largely trivial. The alleged monstrous and outrageous "tampering" charges are nowhere to be seen, since none of the manuscripts does violence to any pivotal Christian doctrine or belief.Although it may be possible to slander W&H in my opinion the resulting differences between the texts speak for themselves.
When one studies the art/science of translation, one begins to appreciate the fact that it is not anywhere near as cut-and-dried as people want it to be. Even the vaunted 1611 KJV had footnotes with alternate renderings, since there isn't always a clear, "best" rendering even among like-minded scholars. Literal is not always synonymous with "accurate communication", and the KJV also has instances of what today is called "dynamic equivalence". If it's wooden literalism someone wants, they can pick up a Young's or an interlinear.I also got tired of seeing footnotes at the bottom to the tune of "verses xx-xx not present in original manuscripts" and footnotes with a more literal translation at the bottom. If it's more literal then why is it a footnote? I also do not believe in selling the Word of God, I mean if you want it bound in leather with nice pages and print sure. But the text it's self should not be for sale!
And I agree about selling the Word of God; those with the money to serve as benefactors should pay the wages of those who do the work so that the Word can be distributed for free. But not even the KJV is truly public domain (owned by the queen of England), and you have to pay for printed copies of it just like any other version.
Total agreement here.Remember Gal 5:25-26 We can agree to disagree. Besides the Holy Spirit teaches us the scriptures if we seek the truth in God's words Joh 15:26-27. 1Co 2:13: the Holy Spirit teaches spiritual things. So when we read the Bible He teaches us 1Co 2:10. 1Co 2:11 The Holy Spirit alone 1Co 2:10-14 knows the things of God.
So I believe the Bible to be truth because the Holy Spirit has told me it is.
