I won't pretend that there is an inerrant or perfect Bible translation out there, but do any of you know of a version that is easy to understand but true to the meaning? I've always read the King James and I'm looking for a little change to read beside it.

You can get interlinear bible which has Hebrew and Greek along. That's what I use for study. Also, sometimes I use Amplified bible for additional clarification. But KJV is the most accurate of the bunch.

The interlinear is a great idea. However, it can give you a headache if you are reading long portions.

If you are looking for one that is similar to the kvj you might try the NKJV. Not everyone likes it, but it does still follow, for the most part, the same manuscripts as the KJV.

You could also download e-sword at www.e-sword.net it has a number of versions for free. You could download several and place them in parallel columns right on your computer. It has a place for study notes, includeds commentaries and dictionaries if you want them, etc. I even use it on my pocket pc!

Also, if you dont' have an interlinear (many don't) try www.scripture4all.org it has a nicely configurable one for free :)

My fav. translation to read is the NKJV, but I think that the most literal and consistent to the Greek and Hebrew would have to be the NASB. I know of some theology students who go to Union and say that Dr. Shepherd--their Biblical language professor--highly recommends the NASB for accuracy and understandability. Either NKJV or NASB would be what I would go with for study purposes. Doug Batchelor also recommends those two versions.
