  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm having a hard time plowing through the Book as I feel God is calling me to do.

Many have told me "God just places a chapter on my heart, and I read it," but I've never felt that conviction. I truly don't feel it's an altruism; God speaks to some in that way under certan circumstances, but not all of us.

Anyway....... is there a specific method of study y'all would recommend?

I dont know of any meathods, maybe you could get a one year bible, which breaks it down day by day. Where did you start, I found the Old testiment to be uninteresting,(I made it to Kings) but I did really enjoy the new testement. (which I should finish reading tonight), and I HATE reading. I think you shouldnt have any trouble finishing the four gospels, and those are the most important part. As mentioned there is a bible that can be read in 1.5 hours. Im not supporting this as a solution, but reading to get base knowledge before starting the full bible is not a bad thing.

I found it really difficult to start with... I was told to start reading John which I dutifully did :) but then found the big, dramatic stories in the Old Testament, so moved there (e.g. Esther, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel etc) for a little while. I tried not to stress out too much about what to read and when.. I just read it!! Then I found areas that really spoke to me that I still read every day (it can be a good idea to highlight these sections so you can flick there really easily)...

If you're still really struggling, first pray about it!! Then maybe get a daily devotional book or something like the Purpose Driven Life which is filled with loads of great scriptures which can help direct your reading...

hope this helps some...

For me, I believe the easiest books to read in the Bible are, and not particular in order: Mark, Luke, John, James and Proverbs.

Mark tells the story of Jesus through the eyes of a young adult, therefore it is easy to read. Luke tells the story of Christ through the eyes of a doctor, and the wonderful miracled and mercy to the needy. John is a must start for all new believers as it portrays the love of Christ for us. I like James and Proverbs as they both provide wisdom and guidance in how we should live and think.

Hi.... I have done an amazing study that I can recommend.. actually it was the best and most indepth I have ever done.. called inductive studies.. Where you actually come away feeling wow.. I have learnt something today!! And considering this book was from the Old Testament.. wow.. you know I have learnt about God and read both for many many years.. LOL.. but this study opened up my understanding in ways far beyond what other studies had!!

I did it personally at home but it could be done in a group study.. and you use color markers to underline words and verses.. so it is broken down and helps you to understand what the Word is saying..
You think about such things as.. where the passage took place.. what the author was trying to say.. who was involved.. that sort of thing!!

A study where the writer doesn't try to tell you what to think or feel or even give you the answers.. but leads you through the bible book or subject you are studying and you find the truths out for yourself!! Just really opening it up for you!!

The writer is Kay Arthurs.. The one I did was called "Walking faithfully with God... by Kay arthur and Brad Bird.... on 1 & 2 Kings / 2 Chronicles.. I would do more.. but haven't found any in Christian bookshops where I live here in Australia.. I learnt so much!! These are amazingly indepth but I warn you... if you get right into them.. they will keep you very busy.. but they really do bring the bible to life!!

Here is a link to the book I studied..

and a link to other books she has written plus her bio...

Hope these help!!

I believe that the most important books of the Bible for us right now are the Church Epistles of Paul (Romans-2 Thess.) These books are addressed to the Church of God (which is us) and is a fuller revelation of all that God has given to us in Christ. From my studying of the Bible, I have found that everything else in the Scripture is revealed in these books (and Romans is probably the best book of the Bible, as many other Bible scholars will also agree). These are pretty much the Pinnacle of the Bible, as God was revealing everything to Paul. Master these and everything else will make a lot more sense. If you are having trouble with these, then try the Gospel of John first, as this is the beginning of the revelation of the Grace in which we now live (although the other gospels have glimpses of the Grace through Christ, for instance the criminal on the cross, but it isn't fully revealed until John).

God Bless

As it is written:
For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. These things command and teach. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker:

May God be with you in your journey.
God bless.
