  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jumping in a bit late, here.

I find the KJV and NKJV work very well together.  I use both, reading passages in one, then the other.  My study Bible is KJV, so I refer to it a lot when I need help understanding.  I find using both version has helped me understand more.

Gerry you mentioned the NKJV is it similar to the old KJV? I have seen it in the stores and didn't know if it was better or not. I use KJV now.

Its actually an IMPROVED version of the KJV. It is an easier read because some of the Elizabethen language of 500 years ago has been replaced with language more in today's vernacular. Yes. I heartily recommend it and if you try it you will love it.

Which passages are you talking about, Gerry?

One thing that really bothers me about the NIV version is that they don't capitalize He, Him, His, etc. when referring to God.

Bruno, I see that Jephunneh has supplied as much of a list as I have available at my fingertips.

NKJV improved? I don't think it's improved at all.

And I can't see how the KJV is hard to read or out-dated.

Gee, I like the NKJV. I can't understand the KJV. It's like reading a foreign language to me. I came to Christ late in life, and the church my parents belonged to didn't use the KJV, so I didn't grow up learning the language, so it's hard for me to understand.

I studied out of my NKJV for 12 years, then I found the God's Word Translation, which is an extremely accurate translation, but in modern language. At first I though it was wrong, because it didn't match up with my understanding of the meaning of words in the KJV, but when I looked up the words in Strong's KJV dictionary, I found out that my understand was all wrong and that the God's Word was correct.

It opened up a whole new understanding of the Bible to me!
