  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My husband and I sometimes read the Bible together, but normally when we are trying to have a convesation and want to back something up. Other than that, we read together when one or the other finds something that especially touches us. For the most part though, we don't read the Bible together. I normally read in the evenings before bed, and he reads while he is on his lunch at work. Usually we use NIV, though he has a NKJV at work that I think was left by someone else.

We pray together, but seldom read the Bible together unless my wife's reading as a lead in to our time of prayer.

My wife would like to read together more, but I have an issue with reading comprehension that doesn't lend itself to out-loud readings. When I read, I often must go back and re-read a word, phrase or sentence (sometimes multiple times) in order to understand. Funny because I love reading and do it a lot, but it's just how my brain works. If we read together, I'll seldom remember what we read when we're done. I wish it were different.

I definitely know how frustrating it can be, WolfGate. :) I have great reading comprehension, but I have to physically read the words myself. I just can't keep things in my mind very well, not words or numbers. I made spelling bees and math quizzes quite a challenge when I was in school. lol Add to that the fact that my husband has ADD, well, reading aloud just doesn't work for us either.

You know, you could always try what we do. We will read the same bits of Scripture, and then just come together at some point in our day and talk about what we read, and what stuck out to us. I've even gotten a special highlighter for bibles that helps a lot when I find something in particular that I want to draw my husband's attention to. :) That way, even though we can't read together, at least we can share things with each other.
