Well, some people don't think it belongs - that it was originally an explanation in the margin, but crept into the main text of some manuscripts.

Depending on the type of exegesis paper, you may need to make your own decision on the verse. (It will appear as a footnote in most English versions.)

Quick answer: The Mount Sinai manuscripts omits John5:3b 'waiting for the moving of the water' and all of verse 4. You are likely using an NIV / NAS version or something other than the Textus Receptus as this is included in the products produced from the TR.
In a similar situation you may find that Mark 16:9-20 is possibly omitted also.
