  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Bible College is a personal preference. There are a lot of Christian, and bible based schools that really are no better than secular school's. College is important, but it doesn't have to be a bible college. God will prepare you for his service however he wants to.

I agree 100%, if God leads you for his service and you feel he has called you to go ahead with college go for it, if you think he wants you in college then go to college.

No, because that's Montanism and/or Donatism.

Before you can be a pastor you need some real life experience in the adult world and you need to be better educated. God may have gifted you and called you, but He still expects you to be prepared to do the very best work for Him. "Good enough" is not good enough for service to God.

I've had a great Youth Pastor who didn't go to Bible College, but he was a good pastor mainly to those who grew up in a secular lifestyle, had he gone to bible college, he wouldn't have been who he was. However, I think that if you want to go into ministry, Bible College is a good idea. But then again, it's not for us to decide, it's for him. *points upwards*

College is very important for people today. Sadly enough, there are too many "bible/Christian" colleges that are just like secular schools. I didn't have a clue as to where I was going to go until April of my senior year. Then God answered my prayers. I had been wanting to go into the military, but I asked God to make his Will clear to me so I may not go astray. He did.

Out of the blue, my College had sent me Information in January, so I scheduled a visit to please my guidence counselor. I'm from New Jersey, and my school is down in Georgia. When I came down for the visit in April, God put my heart at ease for the first time in a while. I'm down in Georgia, because God wants me here.

I've known about my call to ministry and Evangelism for since 6th grade. As I continued on through h.s. He opened some doors and cloesed others. In the End this was the door that He left Wide open. For me, God wanted me in a tiny Christian school in Georgia. Crispie, follow God's will and he'll open the right door for you, but you must seek him. We will also pray that the Holy Spirit may guide you through this choice. God's blessings Brutus.

it seems that many churches and missionary organizations want people who have gone through college, not all I'm sure, but many do.

But if you do go to college, make sure you check things out very carefully, like Brutus said, its unfortunate but many christian schools today are no better than secular, and their theology really leaves something to be desired. I thank God that He has led me to find a very sound Bible college that values truth above all else.

Just keep praying, if its God's will for you to go to college, He'll let you know :)

Last semester I took a class called Introduction to Ministry. One of the things we discussed is - why go to college? A degree is not required to be a pastor. Not at all. There are a buch of pros and cons to getting a degree and to not bother with college. It boils down to a personal calling and where you feel God leading you.

If you want to be a pastor, I think Bible College is THE way to go.
If you're gonna be leading other people through God's Word, you have to be trained on how to study it and get God's heart on how to lead people.
Bible College (not talking about a Christian college teaching secular courses) not only trains you in the Word of God, the teachers teach you by example and you learn from them.

I graduated from Bible College (bachelor Biblical Studies) and I would never consider being in fulltime ministry had I not spent at least one year in full time Bible College. It has prepared me for things I never thought I would have to face, and I'm not even a pastor!

So I encourage you to go to a Bible College for at least one year, and continue taking part time courses until God calls you as a pastor.

God bless!

In many denomination and by many independent churches, a degree is very much required to be a pastor. Not just a degree, but usually a sminiary degree on top of a college degree. Yes, there are churches who make no such requirement, but without a degree, your ministry is more or less limited to those chruches. Right out of high school, you might be able to preach, but you will hardly have enough experience with anything to be a pastor and to counsel others.

Quite true - it is much more difficult to get a job without a degree, but there is always evangelism and church planting and stuff like that that can be done with no degree.

Does a Bible College have any non-Biblical courses, or would it be just like the classes a school of religion would have at a Christian college?

Usually Bible colleges and christian schools will offer courses and classes that aren't necessarily centered around the Bible, but it depends on the school. the one I'm considering going to in the fall pretty much just focuses on the Bible, but I know some other colleges I've been looking out will also train you to earn degrees in nursing or music, or record engineering even.
