This was Box Office Material a long time ago, but I thought to myself 'anything to get something other than the Passion discussed somewhere' ;)

Bowling for Columbine - what did you think? I just saw it yesterday (minus the first 10-15 minutes give or take) and I was actually quite stimulated mentally by it.

Bowling for Columbine was a awesome documentary. I like Michael Moore's sick humor like taking the 2 survivors to the Kmart HQ for a return because the bullets did not do the job they where intended to do. It may be sick but Kmart no longer sells bullets to their customers anymore (not like they will be around much longer anyways.)

But Michael Moore also puts some inacuracy things in his movie such as in Colorado Springs Air Force Base where he talks about a plane that was actually used to drop bombs proudly on japanese people stated on a plaque under the plane. Not True.

Overall I did like the movie and there are certain people who I will never look at the same such as Dick Clark or Charleston Heston.

I thought it was a really interesting documentary. As the poster above said, Michael Moore has been known to over-dramatize or even lie in some of his stuff, so take it all with a grain of salt. But overall, it was an interesting look into what causes violence in the USA. And it gets extra props for including a great, wacky song from the 80s- Camper Van Beethoven's "Take the Skinheads Bowling" :D

I really liked it, even though Michael Moore can be just a tad overly dramatic. It definitely makes you think, even if you don't agree with everything he says. I found it interesting that he was so polite to everyone. I guess it sometimes strikes me as ironic how HOSTILE some pacifists can become when arguing their points...MM is a pacifist after MLK Jr's own heart, I think.

The part that really got me and my husband thinking was his point about how fearful Americans tend to be...how fearful WE (my husband and I) tend to be. That fear leads naturally to mistrust, which can naturally lead to unnecessary violence.

LOL, after watching the movie I asked my hubby if we could move to Canada. ;)

Love, Heather

Are any of you aware that Michael Moore is one of the biggest liars in Hollywood? Bowling for Columbine contains numerous instances where MM chopped and spliced footage to present non-contigous dialogue as part of one speech... MM routinely lies to people to get them on camera, and then takes what they say completely out of context in order to make them sound like they were saying something they are not.

It especially amazes me that anyone on a Christian forum would find him anything other than a tool of the Devil.

Hey, Joshua :) Welcome to CF. In case you're not aware of the rules of this forum, it's considered flaming (and, therefore, against forum rules) to insinuate that any other poster is not a Christian, regardless of their beliefs or opinions. Can't we all just get along? ;)

I haven't seen it... I've wanted to watch it but I've heard and read so much negative about MM that I'm kind of turned off to it.
I was the same way. I thought it would be some ultra extremist thing. I actually enjoyed it very much. I would say it's worth the $4 to rent it, regardless of all the crazy publicity MM has gotten lately.

I am aware that he is one of the biggest liars in Hollywood, and that his movies and books contain many inaccuracies. He tries to excuse the inaccuracies by saying that's he's just doing satire, but then he expects to be taken seriously. He also called President Bush a deserter, which even the liberal Peter Jennings thought was "reckless."

Yep, I agree. Whether or not it's all true, MM makes some interesting points and it's an entertaining movie. Definitely worth seeing.

I'm sorry Heather, I was not at all intending to insinuate ANYTHING about any poster here... My comments were specifically against Michael Moore and my suprise that people on a Christian forum would believe anything Michael Moore has to say...

I apologize if it came across as a flame... I was mostly just incredulous, that's all...

(p.s., just curious, but how many of you watch main-stream television?)

I watch the news about once a week, and M*A*S*H if I remember it which is about once a fortnight. I'm curious what that has to do with anything.

OT: A movie worth seeing, but has to be taken with a grain of salt. The bank doesn't give out firearms for example. The firearm deal is real (which in and of itself I find amazing), but you are given a voucher at the bank and pick it up elsewhere.

There is enough fudging in this movie that there has been talk of taking back the grammy it achived. It can't be classified as a documentary.

I was just curious... My wife and I turned off our T.V. over a year ago and for us it was one of the greatest things we ever did. Since that time, God has moved so much in our lives, and we are so much happier and at peace then before.

We still watch DVD movies, but we went through our collection and got rid of many of them (as well as our secular music), and we try to be extremely selective about the movies we rent or buy.

My point is that I believe TV, music and movies to be a pipeline of moral sewage that feeds straight into peoples minds and corrupts all who are exposed to it. Even the commercials have become so degrading and full of soft-core porn, that it doesn't matter if you try sticking to 'safer' channels, because the commercials will get you even if the regular program doesn't.

God called us to be Holy, as he is Holy, and to be seperate from the world. He also said that when our eye is full of darkness, then our whole being is filled with darkness. The media is a purveyor of darkness, and to partake of it, is to partake of the confusion of the world.

I do not say these things to be proud or righteouss, because I am not. I am a sinner and it is only by God's great love and gift that I have anything that can be called good or pure in my life. I say these things because I fear that a lot of Christians don't understand the danger that these things represent. Listening to a man like Michael Moore is asking the deceit and confusion of this world to take residence in your house; it is a dangerous proposition.

In faith and peace,

No problem. Just didn't want to see you get sent to the principal's office on your first day or so. ;)

I'm sure there are many Christians on these boards that feel the same way you do about TV and movies...and plenty of debate threads if you want to really get into the subject. :) But, even the ones who disagree, for the most part, are wonderful folks. LOL, even many of the non-believers are quite nice as well. Welcome to the CF family. Have some blessings!

Love, Heather

I thought that that movie was a bit over the top in parts - but the part about the media feeding us fear at the bidding of our government rang very true in me. I haven't watched the news for some years now, but every now and then I'll see the 'trailer' for it and the 'top stories' all seem designed to make us watch for fear that if we don't know what they're going to tell us that we will be in some otherwise unknown danger.
