BEWARE what you are about to read is heresy:
"First of all, you can find things in any holy book.
I'm a Christian.
I believe the Bible.
I can find things in the Bible that I don't like, that I don't agree with, that I think are not --
what do I do? I tell people who become Christians, the Bible is our holy book, but read the Bible the way you eat fish --
carefully.
Don't choke on a bone.
Pick the food that serves you well."
-Rev. Robert Schuller
Sorry, it has to be exposed.
This was a quote off of the TV show Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher on November the 23rd 2001. For those of you who do not know, Schuller is the guy who created the Crystal Cathedral, down in Orange County California. I grew up watching him on TV every single Sunday morning. My mom was devoted to this man. I wont go into it with you. But this guy has made a name for himself on cheapening Christianity, telling people that you are a happy Christian*smiling in order to show every tooth in his skull* and if there are any real problems in your life, just have positive happy thoughts and Jesus the ultimate Positive Thinker will take away your pain.
Well, read the book of James for a dose of reality.
Anyway-
My bride and I were watching this show, which we never usually do, because Maher grates on me. A national radio talk show host from Seattle was on, his name is Michael Medved. We really like him and when we saw that he was going to be on, we were there.
They had the normal panel of weirdos. But I was surprised to see Schuller on there. They had a rep from every major religion, Michael- Jew, Schuller- Christian, Salam Al-Marayati, Director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, and Aisha Tyler, a woman from E!.
Well, we were in for a ride.
I will not tell you the details of the conversation, but what Schuller said, as a representative of Christianity on the show; he was way, way, way off base.
Just for you folks who do not know, the Bible, the word of God, passed, and preserved down through time. Is not like fish.
Where you only eat what you are comfortable with, not to choke on the hard parts. You should not pick the food that serves you well as he puts it.
The Bible, I like to compare it to, is like Penicillin, which you take when you are deathly ill, or sick. You do not stop taking it when you feel the symptoms decrease and you feel more like yourself. You continue to take it until the prescribed dosage is completely gone, for fear that if it is not totally consumed, you will become re-infected. The Doctor that prescribes the dosage: Jesus. Your prescribed dosage, is never ending, You take the whole thing, no matter how hard it is to swallow.
That Rev. Schuller is what the Bible is.
