What songs do you love, not because of a message, lyricism, or instrumentalism (necessarily [sp?]), but because listening to them takes you somewhere else... perhaps to a certain scene you constantly play out in your mind, or an exotic locale?

Neenie said:I'm going to have to say "City of blinding lights" by U2 (sorry about the predictable choice) The start of it takes me to a large city at night or looking over a city skyline and being at awe of the blinding lights. Sort of what the song is about.
I hope that was what you meant![]()
Nico said:hah. i think nearly all music does this for me, as i have a tendency to get lost in my own fantasy worlds. this is one of the main reasons i like to play music as i walk to school--it takes me away from the world that is crazy around me. but. obviously, some music does it more for me than others. sigur ros definitely does that for me. not just cause i can't understand the lyrics, but the lead singer's voice and the way they use their voices has a transcendental quality. man, this is really hard, cause as i said, it all transports me to some other place than the here.....maybe the stuff that's more ethereal has a stronger effect--cocteau twins, shoegazer stuff....

Definitely. Whenever I hear a pop song from the mid-late 90's, it almost always brings me back to the van I was riding to and from middle elementary/middle school. The girls I carpooled with would always have the local pop music station on, so they were basically the soundtrack of my school life, whether I liked it or not.NINGirl said:The odd thing is, some of the time these songs remind me of stores. Take "Blow away" by Staind. It reminds me of Target on a rainy day. A Backstreet Boys song I hate reminds me of an Albertsons in my old city. Why songs take me to stores, I do not know. Maybe it's a sign of some sort.![]()
