Which axis is this shape rotating around?

What a wonderful illustration of something about how we perceive (and then think to know what we've seen).

I enjoy it when occasionally I think I'm seeing something for an instant in everyday life where it turns out not there, or turns out to be another thing. And sometimes in dimmer lighting such illusions can persist a good while. That's fun.

I question is it turning constantly, or constantly reversing direction?

I think it is constantly turning, although, I am not sure in which direction. So, it is turning, but the illusion is you can make it go in the opposite direction (I think). I think it reverses depending on how you look at it. It moves either horizontally or vertically depending on which joint you follow. I grasped that much just by changing which joint I was focused on. I think you can do the same thing in terms of clockwise or counter-clockwise. Maybe, hahaha.
