I don't know what my favorite game is of all time, but without a doubt Planescape: Torment is the most creative and most lovingly created. I'm still amazed by the depth that that game has, not so much in the gameplay, but in the storyline. Certainly has the best end boss that I've ever seen in a game, even more impressive by the fact that actually killing him would deny you the best ending (for reasons that are far too spoilerriffic to mention here).

Definitely Morrowind. I think I'm going to DIE before Elder Scrolls IV comes out.

I totally agree!. Morrowind has to be one of the best games ever and it seems like Oblivion will never get here!

I grew up on NES and SNEs and my son play Mario on the NES so not all hope is gone!:)

Am I the only one who finds it somewhat sad that today's generation of kids never got to experience the days of the NES and SNES and therefore missed out on the era when games were focused more on gameplay than graphics?

You've got that right! Actraiser for the SNES has got to be one of my favorites. Original gameplay, and a great soundtrack to boot. And how about Phantasy Star II & III for the Genesis...those were the days! Man, I feel old -- and I'm only in my mid-twenties!

Sales numbers don't mean a game was great. Both Halo and Halo 2 are highly overrated - I own both and don't see what the big fuss is about.

Actraiser ah, now there was a great game. Awesome music score (my sister has the orchestral versions set up as her telephone's "Hold" music at her job) and the gameplay was innovative.

The SNES was definitely the pinnacle of gaming as far as I'm concerned. Zelda 3: Link to the Past was without a doubt the best Zelda game to date. Plus there was Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Street Fighter II (which effectively introduced the "fighting game" genre) alongside Mortal Kombat II (I'll admit, SNES's Mortal Kombat 1 was lame) and great side scrollers like Mega Man X. Ah, those were the days.

I was lucky enough to be one of the few to own the seldom-mentioned Xband modem, the FIRST online console gaming system (That's right people, Xbox Live was not the first to bring console gaming online). I remember playing Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Super Mario Kart, and a bunch others online with like all my free time. I miss those days...

"Best" is such a broad term. Is "best" the most fun to play? Is it the most ground-breaking?

Zelda: OoT is a great one
Starcraft - I wouldn't be me if I didn't say it :)
Super Mario 3
Doom
Ice Hockey for NES (that's right - skinny guys, medium guys, and fat guys)

I'm surprised by the number of votes for Morrowind. I thought the fighting system in that game was terrible. Especially when you first start the game - you got rats that are no bigger than your foot and they're whippin your rear while you miss with practically every swing!

Graphics have always been important, even back in the nes and snes days.

And game makers do thier best to produce some awesome gameplay.
The proof is in the pudding.
Games are far better than they were in the past, and the sales confirm it.
Videogames pull in 7 billion a year, that is more than the movie industry!!!
