  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Best foreign movies you've seen

Well...I've been trying to figure this foreign film thing out for about two years now.

Here's a few that have grabbed me so far:

Denmark:
Zentropa / Lars von Trier (see this one)

Germany:
The American Friend / Wenders
The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, Heart of Glass / Herzog

France:
Clean Slate, The Clockmaker / Bertrand Tavernier (who also did that Dexter Gordon flick, 'Round Midnight)

America:
Men With Guns / John Sayles (My local video store thinks it's foreign because it's not in English...the director is American, though. Maybe it is foreign. I don't know.)

Russia:
Solaris, Mirror / Tarkovsky
Man with a Movie Camera (1929) / Dziga Vertov

Czechoslovakia:
Czech Republic:
Dimensions of Dialogue, Punch and Judy, The Death of Stalinism in Bohemia (animated film shorts) / Jan Svankmajer
West Bohemia:
The Emperor's Nightingale (more animated shorts) / Jiri Trnka

Poland:
The Mascot, a/k/a Puppet Love, a/k/a The Devil's Ball (1933-34), Frogland (animated shorts and animated shorts) / Ladislaw Starwicz
Krzysztof Kieslowski

Italy:
I like old Fellini films the best
La strada (1954), Il bidone (The Swindle) (1955)
(I guess Fellini's Satyricon is my fav. later one)

Iran:
The Taste of Cherry, Close-Up / Abbas Kiarostami

Canada:
Shivers, Dead Ringers, Spider / Cronenberg

There's A LOT I haven't seen.
