  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I can't claim to be an expert, since I've only ever had one "first date" - but it was perfect. We went horseriding (my comfort zone), watched the sunset from the cliffs while eating a Chinese takeaway (breathtaking... and tasty) and then a jazz club (his comfort zone).

Depends. As you say it's someone you know well so you are a bit more open.

Traditional dinner is a great first date, it's something you can do and get to know each other and talk a lot. This is the very reasons a trip to the movies is generally a bad idea for a first date. Still go traditional and do a nice place to eat. If she has any favorite spots (even if not that fancy or anything) choose those. Otherwise keep it someplace that is nice but a bit more generic.

Don't be afriad to mix it up, walks in the park and such are great as well, as are more exotic things that you know she'll enjoy.

ok, but what if her favorate sport is Sky Diving? how can you be romantic while jumping out of a perfectly good plane?

Seriously, this lady at work I like and gave a gift to(For those wanting to know, it's a lapel pin, shapped like a butterfly... colored gold and with like auburn jewels {they sorta match her hair color, only not her hair is three lovely shades of brown, not just one}) is an avid skydiver, going like every or every other weekend.... so how can that be romantic?

Cozy little coffee shop

Iceskating

One of the best first dates I've had was when we out out to eat and then went to the lake afterwards and snuggled up together on a blanket stargazing and talking for a couple of hours. It was something simple and innocent yet so sweet and romantic in a way.

A casual dinner, then a stroll along the beach as the sun is setting (ok, I'm a romantic, don't diss the awesomeness of romance), then a movie. No, wait, reverse that. A movie, THEN a walk.

Rules for HIM: Smile. Girls love smiles. Smile alot on the first date. ENJOY the time, and look like you are!

Rules for HER: Handy tip - look into your partner's eyes. It has more of just a friendship feel. Don't dress to look like you want to reveal all.

Thats my 2c

sunburst..

i have always been puzzled by trying to figure out what to do on a date.. the formal stuff seems to feel weird.. i like to talk to someone when i first meet them to make sure we will understand and enjoy each other.. then once i know the person is sane and smart and funny.. i am content just kickin it anywhere.. i have to be able to be honest and tell the guy "im not huge on formal dates until we are like married".. this seems to go well considering it saves them a buck or two haha..

anyway, good luck on your dating ventures :pink:

On my first date with my boyfriend, we had an evening dinner which was very pleasant and nice. The restaurant doesn't normally accept reservations, and since there were many people waiting to be seated, we stood and waited outside in the balcony area (the restaurant was at the top floor) and looked out to the scenery below. It was very nice because it was around Christmas time and everything was decorated with Christmas lights, and there was a tall tree at the center of the square. But just being able to spend time with him alone that night was a magical evening in itself. :)
