I'm not one to notice drums much, but one drummer stands out for me - Terry Bozzio. I saw him when he toured with Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan, a few months before Stevie's death. Terry was just awesome to see, he is a true drumming craftsman. That was one of my more memorable concerts - I couldn't hear for about a week after. ;)

Rush - Freewill - Neil Peart (drummer)
I have never heard drumming quite like it since. Saw them in concert and I was amazed that they had to build the drum kit around Neil. He has rhythms that most drummers can only dream about. This guy can switch between 5/4 and 4/4 every third measure. I can't even comprehend that.

My top 3 (at the moment) are Metallica, Rush and Led Zeppelin. I just listened to some Rush about an hour ago. The drumming is second to none. Yes, I think that Bill Ward is awesome too.

The most impressive drummer in my mind, without a doubt, is Rick Allen. I've had the pleasure of attending a Def Leppard concert last fall (and yes, I was waving around a Union Jack). If Mr. Allen can successfully put on such a great drum show with one arm, we have no excuse for giving up our dreams. He's an inspiration.

ROCKET, YEAH!

I think I'll wear my Hysteria shirt tommorrow.:)
(my two favorite Leppard songs: Rocket and Animal)
You're my hero hahaha

My problem with drumming is that most of the best drum sounds I've heard in songs are in Industrial Metal or Electronic rock songs, which means either the drums are actually a drum machine, or that the guitar and synthesizers drown them out much of the time, or both ;) . However, regardless of that fact, here are the songs I think have the best drum performances:

"Torn Apart" by Stabbing Westward
"Jihad" or "Ultra" by KMFDM (a combination of minimal drumming and intricate beats)
"You Don't Know What It's Like" by Econoline Crush (more part of the drums' fluidity with the rest of the instruments)
"Never Let Me Down Again" by Depeche Mode
"Engel" or "Feuerräder" by Rammstein
"Chain Lightning" by Rush
"Well Adjusted" by MXPX

And I gotta agree, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" does have excellent drum work.

Well, basically there is not much I could add to this list from my first choices that has not already been said and said again. Rush, Zep, Def...yup, yup, yup. So, from my list of favorite drummers of lesser known artists:

Jerry Gaskill - King's X
Jesse Sprinkle - Poor Old Lu

Especially Gaskill. Power trio...Gaskill sings harmonies...great live...fairly ugly dude, but then for whatever reason many of the great ones are :D .

The best drumming I've ever heard is in the song "Acid Rain" by Liquid Tension Experiment (aka Dreamtheater??). The drummer, I do not know his name, has a double-bass drum thing going....it is absolutely amazing. I've never heard anything like it.....it leaves me speechless!

I've also heard that if you ask a professional drummer who the best drummer is, they'll say Neil Pert of Rush. If you ask a music fan they'll say Keith Moon :)
