  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What, in your opinion, is the best digital camera with the best quality for day and night photos?

(ie must perform WELL at concerts)

I believe there to be a number of good digital cameras out there. Since concert lighting is usually pretty low, a digital SLR with a fast lens is best. Attached is a picture i took with my D-70 of my daughter's high school play.

There are so many varieties of digital cameras, with so many different features, problems and costs, it's impossible to pick a single one without knowing more. The dSLRs like the Nikon D70 are amazing cameras and because of the power and flexilibity they offer. With a very fast lenses and high ISO, they will certainly fit your needs. However, they are relatively big, bulky, heavy and pricey.

Do you have any other requirements? What price range are you thinking of? Would you be okay spending $300? $500? $800? $2,000? What about $5,000?

Do you see yourself as a "photographer", or do you see yourself as a music lover that wants to capture the moment (maybe even with some video clips)?

One thing to keep in mind photographing at a concert is how you use your flash. Usually, the flash only has an effective range of 10-20 feet or so, so you're not reaching the stage with it. You are, however, illuminating the 3 or 4 rows of people in front of you. Your picture will show those people well, but the stage will be too dark to see in the background. Therefore, a camera with a fast lens and/or capable of shooting at least an ISO-equivalent to at least 800, preferably 1600, without a flash is a must. This won't be so important if you can get close enough to the stage to effectively use the flash.
