  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There doesn't seem to be too much of a difference between Macs and PC based computers anymore unless you are planning to incorporate design work into your photography interests.

I'd say get something with a great monitor that can be calibrated (at least 19", 21" is better), the higher the resolution the better. At least 4 (preferably 6) USB ports and a firewire port helps. 60-80GB hard drives will get filled up pretty quickly, so plan on a larger hard drive, or add a stand alone hard drive (I use Seagate stackable 160GB drives). At least 512MB of RAM, 1 GB is preferrable. And as fast as you can afford - if you can buy a 3+GHz Pentium 4 based PC, go for it. Finally, you're going to want to make sure you have funds set aside for Software. THere are places on the net selling the full version of Photoshop CS (yes, with legal registration rights) for $99. Shop around.

If you are tight on money, even a $1,000 computer setup will get you off to a great start these days.
