My two favorites are Catholicism and Fundamentalism by Karl Keating and Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn. The first is straight-out apologetics. The second is Scott Hahn and his wife telling the story of how they became Catholic and what it meant for their lives.

Also, if you can, get a copy of Catholic Christianity by Peter Kreeft. It's a book that's based directly on the Bible and the Catechism with footnotes, so it's very informative as to what Catholics believe but it's more straightforward and not as confusing as the Catechism. We used it as the textbook for my RCIA class and it was great.

I like Catholicism and Fundamentalism and Rome Sweet Home as well. I haven't read Catholic Christianity, but I have read Fundaments Of The Faith by Peter Kreeft and I think that is very good. In fact I was reading some of it again today.

I am reading "Why I am a Catholic" by Garry Wills right now. It is fascinating and a very intellectually stimulating book. He is a conservative Catholic who would deserve the title of "defender of the faith", in my opinion.

How do Catholics here view Wills book, Papal Sin : Structures of Deceit?

Reviews on Amazon are decidedly mixed.

Thanks for the response everybody. For my Intro to the study of religion class, Im writing a 7-10 page paper about Catholisim. Im going to get two Catholic books and one Anti catholic books. Im still very comfused on this issue, as somethings I do believe Protestens are wrong about, and somethings I can see a basis for truth, but I dont know what I believe. This journey wont end overnight, but Jesus promised all who asked will recieve, so I have faith that he will lead me down the right path whatever it is. Thanks everybody.

What kinds of anti-Catholic books do you read? From my experience with anti-Catholic materials, it seems that most of them attack Catholics for believing things that they don't actually believe, and refuting that. Like "Catholics worship Mary, but the First Commandment says not to worship anyone else!" They'd be right if we did worship Mary, but we don't.
