  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Benny Hinn and dateline

As for accountability, well there is none among Protestant Christians.  They may voice their opinion that Benny Hinn is a false prophet, but that is as far as it will go.  Why?  Because it isn't their problem.  That's why I'm not a Protestant anymore.

Amen Michelle.

"Who is going to denounce this guy? Who is going to regulate him? For all I know, he started his own chuch, and like many others, are misusing the message of Christ."

HBO did a special on Benny Hinn and some other guy about a year or two ago.  They made these clowns look like total morons.  (not that they had to try real hard)

Yeah, you're right, the protestants should rise up and burn him at the stake

I wouldn't suggest that you burn him at the stake.  I do think that you should try to get him on the phone and respectfully ask him to reliquish his self appointed position of spiritual authority.  Or at least email him.

When you attack something you go to the fringes first. Why? because you will get help from your enemy.
Dateline is not interested in the unity of the Church.
Any form of attack of Christianity is an attack on Christianity. It will not help you to attack the fringes of Christianity. It will not make dateline "Christian friendly".
In fact as the fringes shrink, you will become the fringe.

I don't think anyone here has seen the issue. The issue isn't Hinn, it's who's on the fringe today. He is a problem, no doubt but the true problem is the Spirtual battle that goes unseen by Christian and non.

I will not defend or attack any portion, no matter how much I disagree with them because by doing so I am fighting to make myself the fringe issue.

This is a Spiritual battle we fight. When are we as Christians going to understand this?

I would agree with eldermike that Dateline is only trying to make all Christians look like Benny Hinn.

I also think that if we are to hold one another accountable .... then it wouldn't be such a bad thing to email Benny Hinn and let him know what we think.

So what if Hitler claimed to be Christian?
Don't we expect to be attacked in this manner?
It's promised.

What we do wrong is we attack the person. We can't win anything by attacking Hinn. We are not fighting Hinn.

We have no fight with people.
Expect it!

eldermike,

Growing up (I think I have mentioned this in over half my posts that I was raised catholic) I always heard evangelical christians referred to as "bible thumpers". No sugar coating it, it was meant to be derogatory. It is only very recently that I've done a little thumping of the bible of my own. Is it wrong for me to want to distance myself from men like Benny Hinn? And how can we as Christians sit back and just take it when men like him make our religion a mockery? He was my idea of evangelical Christianity before I met my wife, and it may sound weak, but it was men like him that kept me away. Praise the Lord that I was "shown" another side of Christianity, it's sad for me to think that Jesus sought me out and came to me before I was wise enough to come to Him.

We are in a Spirtual Battle. We fight with prayer, with the witness of our lives. We trust God, He has already won this battle.

We are told to argue His case and to use the Sword of Truth in this battle. Yes it is already won, but we are warriors in the battle.

I don't think that Dateline is trying to attack Christianity, although self-admittedly I don't know much about them, but I do know that I found something wrong with Benny Hinn the first time I stopped on his program. I do think it's mass hypnosis and it's scary. And what about the millions of dollars that Christians are giving to him for good causes, how much of that do you think goes to good causes? What if he is a wolf in lamb's clothing, and maybe raising money for untoward causes or just one of those preachers who pockets the money? It's just my opinion, but the man sets off alarm bells all over the place.

Thanx, Luv
Theresa

Pray for the lost souls working for Datleline. Pray for the ones that used this as a reason to reject God. I am trying to get a very biblical point across here. Bringing down Hinn will not win souls. Understanding the battle will put us on our knees, this is the battle position.
