beliefs?

hi, i just became a christian yesterday and i am trying to find out what different types of churches believe. i guess the "non-denominational" thread is for people that don't attend a certain type of church. i have tried to find out what all the different types of churches believe and it looks like they all believe in the same thing. i can't really tell the differences between like lutherans and baptists and assembly of god. so, what do baptists/anabaptists believe?

first of all im so happy to hear that you are a christian, its wonderful isnt it? we believe the bible, all of it. im sure some of the elders will have more lengthy answers tho

purpose- Congratulations - I am happy for you.

I cannot speak for all Baptists, but I can speak of what I believe. I also am an active member of a Baptist church.

First Tier belief - Belief in Christ, that he died for your sins, and you accept him as the lord of your life.

Second tier -

1. Bible is the inspired word of God
2. We come to Christ on our own (we are our own "priests") No one can come to christ for us.
3. Baptism by immersion - after acceptance of Christ - no infant baptism

Third Tier -

1. Local Churches are independent
2. Many baptists (Southern Baptist Convention, for example) believe in practicing two ordinances Lord's supper & Baptism.
3. Traditionally, Baptists have believed in a seperation between Church and State. I, still believe that, but not all of my brothers and sister Baptists do.
4. Many Baptists are missionary focused (but again, not all)

There are others, but I think this is a good start.

there is no set service form, singing, or dress...you'll get different answers. the church i go to is old fashioned. and the girls wear dresses, the men usually wear jeans and an appropriate shirt, slacks and dress shirt on sunday, but thats by choice. your not going to be kicked out if your not dressed a certain way.

There are all kinds of Baptist churchs. Same as there are all kinds of any denominational church.

I have attended several Baptist churchs in my life. One was very conservative. Hymns only for the most part with only piano and organ. They were fairly formal for the most part too. I attend a Baptist church now that is not so conservative that does all kinds of music with almost a full orchestra. The people who attend for the most part dress formal as well. I have also been to a Baptist church that had a music style very similar to a Penecostal church and dress very casual.

Not all Baptist churches are the same. There is a fairly wide spectrum out there.
