Being Thankful is not Always Easy

It is not always easy being thankful,
as we age our burdens can pile up,
when cynical or bitter,
it is difficult to see a brighter light,
yet faith is a way of seeing, of being,
based on a sober choice,
to be bitter or thankful,
a choice as well,
yet, it can feel like death to embrace
what we have, in hope, and forgive, let go,
trust.-Br.MD

I am now old, and the struggle continues the same one, yet I see its meaning—
to keep me moving forward even when I fail. I seem to be getting happier
as I age, but there is still a way to go. I am now 76, and the years go by so very fast.-Br.MD

Thanks. It is true there is 1 core aspect of our circumstances we have control of.
Our attitude.
1 Thess 5
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

It is a gift to understand verse 18.
In everything, not for everything.
Why would anyone in their right mind be thankful for diminished sight, hearing, mobility, or memory?
We gives thanks for Gods grace and presence in our life.
We hope for our new lives in His presence.
We have faith and comfort in His promises.

It’s easy to be grateful. You don’t have to be grateful for what you’re not grateful for. It brings joy to have gratitude. In hindsight for what has happened and shaped your life but probably not when your going through it. We don’t want the bad things to be all there is and we keep striving for good. Count your real blessings. Don’t get hung up on old age. There is much to be grateful for outside yourself.
