I PREFER CCM but can appreciate God's beauty in secular music. Talent comes from God even if the artist doesn't recognize that fact. I can't watch most faith based films because they are, frankly, bad. With few exceptions, they often make Christians and non-believers into caricatures. Movies have to have some sort of redemption for me to spend time on them. If you want me to expound on any of these points please ask.
Agree and I listen to both Christian and 'secular' music, just I don't like the strawmen figures and cheesiness in films like God is Not Dead. TBH quite a lot of Christian hard rock and metal are kinda lousy (still there are some good ones like The Devil wears Prada and Drottnar- this band is quite unique with their apocalyptic/industrial imagery). Except their message some are either overly preachy or they simply put very little creativity and technique inside. Some of the CCM are just a joke like many faith-based jokes, so miserably bad that many Christians rate them very poorly. Instead of entertainment they're more like propaganda which fails badly.

So the consensus is that trying to only have Christian based entertainment would be a bad thing?

If you want to turn only to Christian entertainment then do so. It doesn't make you personally any closer to God, but neither does reading the Bible if you don't let it in.

Just know much of what is sold as "Christian" isn't inline with scripture, your just their target audience, so there is both good and bad in it, and the bad can be far more deceptive in its bad.

What it will do is make the world a far more shocking and horrifying place to live in during the times you do find yourself seeing it's face and that can have both negative and positive consequences...

Positive because you really see it, and negative because you will judge it and find it sickens you. That can impact how you interact with the world around you, and you don't want your interactions to be wholly negative and they can easily become so.

It's always about finding the right place where your living in the world without being of it, and you'll likely find yourself trying various approaches out for seasons until you find where that place is for you.

So try Christian only entertainment for a while, may as well if you've never done it. Just make sure your learning from Scripture and not these entertainers.

We’re told to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. And reminded that all things are lawful but everything isn’t helpful. We must determine with the aid of the Holy Spirit what this means. One person’s taboo won’t apply to the next. We aren’t subject to the same temptations.

I began recollecting the operas, theater, ballet, and symphony performances I’ve attended and the answer was clear. Vice is implied. It’s never spelled out. Gore has no place. Or profanity

to be honest, i don't believe in secular vs not when it comes to entertainment. it isn't if a thing is secular or not but is it wholesome and edifying or not? so yes, i do have secular entertainment, just not anything unwholesome

I think you misread my comment. I said vice is implied in those mediums. It isn’t overtly presented. Which juxtaposes entertainment in mainstream society. I didn’t give them up. I reduced my exposure to the other.

A seed produces fruit after its own kind. I prefer to feed on things that yield a harvest.

ah, i see. thanks for explaining. not that it would be wrong for you if you did feel convicted to give them up, because these things are personal but i did want to be sure as i tend to worry "Is this a sin or not? i enjoy it, maybe it is a sin?"
