Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Welcome to CF ! I just joined recently as well. That is a pretty broad question....read/study your Bible, pray, attend church, spend time with other Christians, strive to do God's will everyday (I know this is not specific but I can't think of how to make it more specific right now ).... Is there a specific area that you need to improvement in? I know I need to improve as well. Btw, your daughter is cute :D.

Becomming a better Christian, much like getting better at anything takes time and practice. Its not going to happen overnight.

The key is having the dicipline to keep up the effort to become better throughout your entire life.

The main thing one has to practice at is relying on God and trusting in God. Its tough thing to do because we as people like to do things ourselves. We try to maintain our own faith, to rely upon ourselves to change ourselves. But its harder to try and turn that all over to God. One thing that I've been learning recently is not to try to maintain my own faith and let God do it for me. I've found that the more I over think my faith and try to do my own believing, the harder it is to actually belive.

But the more I just let it go, not overthink it, and trust in God, the more I truely can belive.

Read your Bible and pray. When you see something that sticks out to you, share it with your Christian friends. Love God. Love people. When doing anything, ask yourself if God would be happy with you doing it. With other people, ask yourself if you're treating them the same way you would prefer them to treat you. I think that covers most of it.

It's the trickiest part for me. Most of my Christian friends, I've met through the internet or through church. I'm not really in a church right now, but I still have friends from churches I've been at. I personally believe community to be the best use of traditional church.

Don't worry about making christian friends over all others. that is a mistake I once made. I once spent so much energy trying to make "christian friends," that I ended up turning my back on those who truly were my friends...and in the end, I had no friends!

One is no less deserving of frienship simply because they have different beliefs than you do. In fact, it is better for people who have different beliefs to become friends, so that they can learn from each other, and gain a broader perspective of the world and differing points of view.

I wasn't saying to ONLY have Christian friends, but as a believer, you have to have some. If I'm reading the Bible and something speaks to me, it won't mean anything special to my agnostic friends. Also, the Bible talks about not forsaking the gathering of the brethren. Not only is it wisdom for a Christian to have Christian friends, it is a command.

Yes, love thy neighbour is probably a good start. It is not always easy though. Naturally, you wouldn't want to love somebody who is horrible to you, but I guess that is all part of the learning process.

As for making christian friends, this is a very good idea as it is very encouraging to have support from other christians and friends tend to influence each other. However, saying that, not all christians are nice people(the majority of mean people i've met in the last couple of years were actually christians), therefore even that may be hard, but i'm sure you'll find the right people if you pray about it. God will guide you.

I'm pretty sure the two are synonymous

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

The way I look at, trying to be a better christian can easily get one more focused on themselves and trying to measure up to a certain ideal. While focusing on serving and honoring God the way he wants, takes our eyes off ourselves and puts them onto God. Thing is we may have our own preconceived notions about how to be a good christian and that's often impacted by the people around us. But the only opinion that really matters is God's. He often has a much different idea than we do of how he wants to grow us.
