• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have noticed just in myself that the intelligence or maturity of my posts can differ just based on my current mood. I know this isn't right since I should show the same respect, courtesy, and overall maturity regardless of what mood I'm in. My question is, does anyone else notice themselves or others doing this?

Obviously someone who is angry may scream, people who are sad sometimes will cry, people who are happy tend to smile. However I just mean here in this forum of typing words out. can you tell someone's mood because their syntax or diction changes or perhaps their vocabulary drops or they start to curse or call names or whatever?

Yup-everyone is subject to moods; everyone has them, and it does slip out in the posts. Yes-you can tell in the typing. The problem is, our moods also influence how we interpret what we read!

Oh yeah! If I'm already frustrated about things and I read something that, IMO, is incredibly lame I tend to get snippy.

I am glad I am not the only one, and I am also glad that it is not just a female tendancy ... Honestly, I have written so many posts that upon consideration of their tone, I have had to close Christian Forums to avoid hitting the 'submit' button. This tone does not even have to involve obscenities or offensive language. It is very easy to communicate sarcasm within a civil vocabulary palate --- in fact, that very well may be the ideal sarcastic palate. :p

I think it's a pretty normal thing. Not necessarily a good thing, but a normal thing. I know I do it -- at times I'm able to be completely respectful to anyone I'm talking to, no matter how frustrated I might become, but at other times I just lose it and start saying some pretty cruel and hurtful things. I'm not proud of myself when I do that, but the most I can do is try to rein myself in as much as possible -- and then when I fail, I can only hope that the people around me understand from past experience that I'm mostly a good guy ;)

I've always thought you had a really nice personality and your kindness and gentleness really show. You're cool in my book!

I've noticed that when I'm really tired I tend to be even less understanding. I'm very conservative, and don't have a lot of tolerance for those who believe different from me to begin with, however it becomes even worse when I'm tired, or have had a bad day. Granted this doesn't excuse my behaivor, but it happens.

Don't forget that the same goes for reading responses. Sometimes you are in a rational and accomodating meed and sometimes you just what to hit out. My point of view is that I do not allow something like that to bother me. I am what I am and my actions is a consequence of what I am and the consequences of my actions are part of the normal chain of cause and effect so it's all very normal
