  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it common to worry a lot at the beginning of a relationship? It's only been a week in, but every time I seem to get past one worry another finds its way inside my mind. It doesn't help at all that it's a long-distance relationship. I've worried about everything from her being more involved than me to differences to whether our talking is going anywhere. It's been driving me nuts. When can I stop worrying and try to enjoy the opportunity that I've been given?

I don't think it's all that uncommon to worry at the beggining..because you don't know the person that well and can't predict what they're thinking. Just try to remember that they're probably having just as many worries as you! I know I always do at the beggining of a relationship. Just try to keep in the moment..think of how much you like the person. Keep in mind the good things about them. Good luck and God bless!

Trip,
Worrying at the beginning of a relationship is common, at least for me. So it looks like I've come to the right forum:)
Let me ask you, do you naturally have a brooding personality? Not brooding in a manic depressive way but are you very thoughtful about things?
I worried A LOT at the beginning of my relationship with my GF. I'm divorced and the worry plagued me because I didn't want to repeat any mistakes AND I wanted to make sure it was REALLY the Lords will that we be together!
Just try not to let it take you over, that's happened to me at times. It just ruins things for a time. The best advice I can give you is to 1)pray about your worry. Sounds trivial but it helps. I find when I DON"T come to the Lord with my worry it gets worse. and 2) Talk to HER about them! Again, when I worry I normally find once my gf and I discuss things, they aren't as bad or as large a problem as I thought they were! Good Luck!

The brooding Transylvanian,
M

Thanks for the advice everyone. I finally came to the realization that all my worries were more about the long-distance relationship itself and how it occured than anything else. We have decided to just be friends for now--since that's all we ever really seemed to be--and just get to know each other better that way. I feel it was the only way I could avoid being overcome with worry all the time. I just couldn't handle a long-distance relationship.

We would still like to meet each other some time, but if nothing ever happens we both seem to be fine with that. I guess I'll be going back to the Singles Forum now ;) but I think things have finally worked for the best.

Read Matthew 6. :)

I'm guessing it's the end of the chapter you were aiming me at, since I don't think I'm proclaiming things out on the street by having asked for help in a forum.

Honestly though, I think this is the best route for us to take. I couldn't deal with having a relationship with someone I've never met face to face.

Triptych, I know the Heavenly Father is pleased with your wisdom. You sought His will and He gave you a way to sort of ease out of what could have been a sticky situation. As long as you feel peace about it and you parted on good terms and can remain friends then I'm certain the Lord will bless your friendship. And then, if it's the Lord's will, someday you will meet and maybe it will progress from there...but for now, especially if you're having serious doubts, this seems like the best course of action. Best of luck.

P.S. - We sure would have missed you over in the Singles Forum. :p
