I have to start in the colder months until march. Nothing has been planted yet, but the plan is coming together, I decided to not do vegetables this year and just keep it simple.

after tilling three times, I'm planning on green beans and red potatoes

I forgot what these are called but I got out the most of them.

The best I can do right now in the frozen north is seed starting indoors or window sill gardening. Our last frost date is around Mother's Day.

I do have a beautiful, fragrant calamondin tree in my sun-room. It is variegated, leaves and fruit, and is ever-bearing. The rinds are edible like its cousin, the kumquat.

In the meanwhile, the seed catalogues make good reading and daydreaming.

Have fun digging up those potatoes and picking those beans! By the way, I’m curious, is there a difference in homegrown potatoes and store bought? I’ve always been curious about that.

Potatoes are a different type of vegetable all together; we usually buy seed potatoes and plant them x2 per hill. They make a good Wednesday dish if cooked them together like this.

But do homegrown taste different than store bought? Like other veggies do?

There's not much a difference if even better..

I might bring other pictures later on, after Monday.

I live in southern CA and put peas and carrots seeds in the ground a few days ago. So far the cats keep digging up the peas.

Ah, I'm so jealous you can already start planting. I can't wait.

Years ago I use to plant kale and would be harvesting it all winter. I stopped because we stopped having much snow. As for growing season It starts when those piles of snow melt and the ground dries enough to plant. Only G-d knows when that will happen.

Homegrown are fresher and stored in better conditions. When we harvested vegetables they were cleaned and prepared the same day. Two days later they're at the farmer's market. Both are creamier in my opinion and cook a little faster.

I never noticed a big difference with home grown beans and potatoes and buying fresh beans or potatoes in the store. Everything else like tomatoes, cukes, fruits etc., definitely. I absolutely cannot wait for tomatoes this year. I have some put up but I love fresh tomatoes for breakfast and a nice smoothie! :)

Beans were planted late so I expect a slow process.

I forgot about posting the lady finger daicons which the full sized radishes did good in 19 so I decided to go with them again, and I also have four watermelons that I planted Monday or Tuesday.
