Before Jesus died, did he know he would rise from the dead?

He knew...
But he answered them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Matthew 12:39-40
So if you agree that Jesus was not completely sinless then he could not have paid the price for your sins. So why do you consider yourself a Christian?Yes..
Isn't this a false prophecy? Not to be too picky but if Jesus died on Friday then he was not in the heart of the earth for 3 nights. I think Jesus may have lied which cannot make him the sinless savior which means your sins cannot be forgiven. Right?
Luke 24:21 "...it is the third day since these things happened". Jesus talked to these two "followers" on the first day of the week (Sunday) Luke 24:1. So Jesus died on friday (good friday). Still a false prophecy to me.The bible doesn't say He died on friday. No false prophecy here.

Hey buddy thanks, I never noticed this verse before. This verse actually proves the prophecy to be true.
Jesus talks to these guys on Sunday, and they tell Him it's been three days since He was crucified. Prophecy proven true.
The verse never mentions Friday at all. Three days before Sunday must be Thursday.
Andy S said:There are many verses you haven't noticed through the gospels. Jesus died on "...the preparation day, that is, the day before sabbath" (Mark 15:42). Saturday is the sabbath, not Friday. There is no way Jesus was in the "heart of the earth" for 3 nights. Still a false prophecy in my eyes but please keep trying.
Here we go again. You ready? This is actually an easy one.
First of all, if you don't already know, you have to understand how the Jews counted the days. A new day started at sunset and ended at sunset on what we would call the next day. So...
Mark 15:22-41 all happens on Thursday before sunset. That means Jesus died at about 3pm on Thursday. See verses 34-37.
Now how does verse 42 start? v42, "and when evening had already come..." that means it is now Friday (preparation day). Remember a new day starts at sunset. And the next sunset starts Saturday and the next sunset starts Sunday, 3 nights.
Still a true prophecy.
Andy S said:Here we go again. You ready? This is actually an easy one. I got to hand it to you though...you are persistent. Friday cannot be "preparation day" because John says that the day after the crucifixion was a Sabbath and the day of crucifixion was a preparation day. John 19:31 says, "Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath...". Good try though. You might want to surrender now because the next thing in my goody bag is to walk you through how Jesus died on two different days. The day of passover according to Mark and the day before passover according to John.
Still a false prophecy.
If Friday can't be "preparation day" then why did you say that it was in one of your post? Oh I know why... Because it fit your view at the time. Since I showed you that your view was wrong, now you say that "Friday can't be preparation day".
First, you are far from proving to me that the crucifixion was on Thursday. Like I said, Mark and John even disagree as to which day Jesus even died on. Mark says after the passover and John says before. You simply can't prove to me that Jesus died on Thursday based on the synoptic gospels. Unfortunately, you have to deal with this verse in John.John 19:31 does not say that the day after the crucifixion was a sabbath. It says that on the day of preparation (Friday) the Jews asked Pilate if the could take Jesus body off the cross because they did not want it to remain on the cross on the Sabbath (Saturday). Remember I proved to you that the crucifixion was on Thursday around 3pm and sometime after sunset, which is now Friday (preparation day), is when the Jews asked Pilate about Jesus body.
You are now 0 for 3 in your attempt to prove the prophecy wrong. And you think i should surrender?
Still a true prophecy
Andy S said:You misunderstood me. I meant Friday can't be "preparation day" in your view. John 19:31 specifically says that Jesus died on the day of preparation. John's view is contradictory with your view. In your post #13 you state that the following day after the crucifixion is a preparation day (Friday). John says that Jesus died on the day of preparation. Your view of a Thursday crucifixion contradicts with John's view. My view is simply that the bible is contradictory and Jesus' prophecy of "three days and three nights in the heart of the earth" is a false prophecy.
First, you are far from proving to me that the crucifixion was on Thursday. Like I said, Mark and John even disagree as to which day Jesus even died on. Mark says after the passover and John says before. You simply can't prove to me that Jesus died on Thursday based on the synoptic gospels. Unfortunately, you have to deal with this verse in John.
Secondly, John 19:31 does say that the day after the crucifixion was a sabbath! I thought you might have a bible handy but let me give you the verse just before John 19:31. "Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and have up His spirit.". Now, pay attention to verse 31. "Then the Jews, BECAUSE IT WAS THE DAY OF PREPARATION, SO THAT THE BODIES WOULD NOT REMAIN ON THE CROSS ON THE SABBATH..."
Now, grab your bible and read this slowly over and over again. And then ask yourself, "if I have the proof that Jesus died on Thursday then why does the overwhelmingly majority of Christians believe that Jesus died on Friday?"
Have you thought that maybe it's because of these verses in John?
Yes, I think you should surrender! I can't dumb this down any more for you. You have the bold letters of john's gospel staring you right in your face right now. Because you were so persistent though I decided to write a poem for you:
Oooooh the tangled web you weave,
once you think you can believe.
Won't you bow your head and pray,
that this contradiction would go away.
You say that I am 0 for 3,
but read John 19 carefully!
So Jesus was crucified on Thursday which was the Day of Passover. Friday was the High Sabbath and Saturday was the normal Sabbath. Fits perfectly with every Gospel.
Did you get that Andy? Even if you did I don't think you would admit it.
Chalk another one up for the dumb Christian.
