  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are so many great microbrews in the U.S. I have greatly enjoyed the Sweetwater brewing company out of Atlanta for quite a while now, and it has made me happy to see them growing steadily.

In general, I do like a good IPA but am very open to most kinds of beer. When I do actually get out for a couple of drinks, I tend to try something different. With that said, I'm not sure that I gravitate toward one particular beer very often. I do, however, really like a lot of the black IPAs that have been popping up. It's an IPA... but it's dark? Doesn't even make sense but many of them are soooo good.

We have a local one up here in Ohio that's really good called the Great Lakes Brewing company...they make make a great pale ale and some great lager.

I know that I've had a few Great Lakes brews in the past, but I've done a pretty bad job of actually remembering which ones stood out. I feel like I should keep a journal or something to remind me of what beers impressed and which ones to never buy again. :D

I will definitely keep an eye out and make it a point to look more into Great Lakes. I'm pretty sure that it's even sold in some of the grocery stores around here now.

I know the most popular ones up here by GL are the Dortmunder Gold and Commodore Perry.

In the wintertime, I love me a good porter.

Best of that currently is a bi-coastal mashup partnership between Phillips out of Victoria, and Garrison out of Halifax. It's great. But Canadian, so probably hard to track down south of the 49th. One good one I've had recently is the Baltic Porter by Uncommon Brewers, which is in California.

I guess my taste in beer is pretty simple, as I like about any lager or lighter beer, never been able to develop much of a taste for the dark stuff.

I especially like a beer out of North Carolina called "Carolina Blonde" I've seen it in bottles in stores, but it's much better if you can find it on tap.

I also like Hefeweizen(wheat beer) pretty good, though it's not always easy to find around here. The Shiner company out of Texas has a good hefeweizen.

Now me, I'm a malt fiend: amber to midnight black is my range - rich, fruity, grainy, chocolatey, and sweet. Vienna lagers: Negra Modelo, Warsteiner Premium Dunkel. Doppelbocks: Paulaner Salvator, Spaten Optimator. Stouts; Guinness Extra Stout (want to try the Foreign Export), Highland Oatmeal Stout (almost a bit too hoppy, though). My favorite of all time awhile back was Oskar Blues Old Chub, but my grocery isn't stocking it regularly anymore.

I like a lot of different kinds of beer, it just depends on what I feel like really. Nowadays I tend to prefer a good Heineken or a Sam Adams Alpine Spring.

I had my first Alpine Spring on tap Wednesday night at Ruby Tuesday's; went out the next day and got a sixer. And I'm usually a dark beer guy!
