We skipped the toddler beds and just went to twin sized beds with a safety rail that we could add until they were unlikely to fall out of bed. If memory serves (it's been a while), my oldest started sleeping in her bed at around 2 years about the time that her sister was born. The younger moved to a twin bed when she was about 2 as well.

When she was 9 months old she started climbing out of cots and play pens and so we put my daughter in a bed when she was 11 months old because there was no cot she couldn't climb out of.

At a year old I would find her six foot up sat on top of the wardrobe and after a couple of times I got cross with my partner thinking he was being funny... but he said he wanted to tell me to stop putting the baby up there cos it wasn't funny...

...so we realised she was climbing up there on her own. She pulled out the draws of a tall chest and made a ladder and climbed up and along the furniture until she reached the highest point in the room... then sat there waiting to see the terror on our faces when we walked in the room.

We just made sure the room was as safe as we could make it... and moved the wardrobe away from all furniture. Also remember to fix tall furnature to the walld cos kids climb up shelves and all sorts and they can overturn and hurt them... use window locks socket covers, safe toys etc... if there is a danger the kids will find it!

We use a pack-and-play when the baby isn't in bed with us. Let's see, the older ones each moved into their beds at around 1 1/2 or 2 or there abouts. We have a full size bed for company and that is the bed the youngest moves into, less chance of falling off the edge. In fact, I think nobody fell until they were older (the 6 year old did about a month ago). All have loved the idea of their own bed with kid sheets.

They tell me my older sister was the same way at 12 months--she would climb onto the refrigerator--I always suspected Mom made that up, maybe I should apologize to my mother:blush: ?

I don't think it's a problem at all if she still seems to enjoy it. Most of them start itching to get out of it and it becomes more of a safety issue than anything else. Christmas sounds like it might be a good time for you and your little one. Maybe if you let her help you pick out the bed, pick the sheets, that kind of thing, maybe she'd get excited about more quickly.

I think mine moved out of their cribs when they were both about 1 1/2. We also went straight to a twin bed with a safety rail. You know, if you're concerned about her rolling off, then sometimes just a mattress on the floor is a good way to start out.

Good luck. :)

I don't think that's a problem at all. So long as you are happy with it and don't need the cot for anyone else. I have a friend whose son is nearly 3 and moved to a bed about 3 months ago. It's perfectly normal.

My son has a high twin in his room as well as the crib, and every once in awhile, like when he was sick, I would put him on the bed with me there so I could be next to him. Then he started wanting his naps in there, so we let him fall asleep there thenmoved him back to the safety of his crib.

When he was nearing two we couldn't decide on a toddler bed or to just let him adopt our spare bed. I decided that a toddler bed would only get two years of use tops, whereas the spare bed was already set up and just needed a rail. So now he is a big boy in his big bed. I cried that first night we took the crib out. LOL
