  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It depends on the church. If your friend wants to become the pastor of a specific denomination (ex Baptist, Presbyterian, Salvation Army, etc) (s)he should find out what requirements that denomination has.

While it's not always necessary to have a seminary degree, it can be very helpful to have seminary training before taking on a pastoral role ... being a pastor is a VERY challenging calling. Often pastors will have an MDiv degree, which is a 3-year masters degree taken after university.

Here is a list of ATS accredited schools which offer the MDiv degree:

If (s)he wants to do it via distance ed, one option is Liberty University who offers the MDiv online (Liberty is not ATS accredited but is regionally accredited which is just as good):

The person needs to find out the process for their specific denomination, their pastor should be able to help in that regard. The discussion with his own pastor is a must, IMO. The call ministry is not to be taken lightly and the people around him should be able to verify that call.

I am working on my Bachelors in Pastoral Minsitries now, while serving as a licensed Nazarene minister. In our denomination there are a variety of ways to meet the education requirements, many of which do not end up with a degree.
